Note: Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference for all Stamford Public School positions.

Assistant Superintendent – Secondary
General Statement:
The Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education reports to the Superintendent of Schools. The
Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education supervises all secondary principals and monitors and
supports all efforts in middle and high school to ensure that all students are achieving high academic
standards.
Major Responsibilities:
• Supervises middle and high school principals.
• Represents the Superintendent of Schools at district and community functions when necessary.
• Insures alignment of school practices to district, city, state and federal policies, codes and legislation.
• Works with schools to implement best instructional practices related to secondary education.
• Works with schools to implement best management practices related to secondary education.
• Collaborates with district staff to develop and implement programs and initiatives designed to meet
the needs (academic and other) of all students.
• Collaborates with district staff to develop and implement programs and initiatives designed to
eliminate the achievement gap.
• Oversees the use of comprehensive data in all decisions at the secondary level.
• Provides analysis and insight into students achievement results at all secondary schools.
• Recommends to the Superintendent programs and resources needed at the secondary level.
• Provides opportunities for secondary principals to share with and learn from each other.
• Keeps current with all research related to secondary education and provides regular updates to the
Superintendent about trends.
• Develops accountability mechanisms for measuring the performance of secondary school programs
and staff.
• Performs additional administrative duties delegated by the Superintendent of Schools.
Qualifications:
• CT CSDE Intermediate Administration or Supervision certification (092) or eligibility.
• Minimum 5 years experience as an middle or high school principal.
• Experience implementing research-based practices in efforts to improve instruction.
• Extensive knowledge of current trends and research in secondary education.
• Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations.
• Commitment to creating schools that provide an education that cultivates productive habits of mind,
body, and heart in every student.
• Working knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e.
Windows, Chrome); Productivity Software (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
Google Workspace - Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail; Adobe Acrobat); Communication and
Collaboration tools (i.e. Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams); Accounting Software (i.e. Oracle,
QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, Power School, CT-SEDS); or any other
technology deemed relevant for this position.
