POSITION: K-4 Summer School Teacher (multiple positions)
LOCATION: Elementary School
HOURS: 4.75 hours per day, 7:30 am to 12:15 pm, June 22-25, June 29-July 2, July 7-9, 13-16, and 20-23, 2026. Plus 10 hours of prep and training.

Salary: KEA Salary Schedule, per diem rate
Position Description: The Summer School Teacher will provide small group academic instruction to qualifying students in grades K-4 during the five-week summer program.. Instruction will focus on Reading, Language Arts, and Math, with lessons aligned to student learning needs. The teacher will support student engagement, monitor progress, and collaborate with program staff to ensure student growth.
Essential Job Functions:
- Plans and provides clear and intentionally focused instruction using state standards, subject matter content, district curriculum and student needs.
- Recognizes individual student learning needs and develops strategies to address those needs for the purpose of promoting individual achievement.
- Implements effective teaching practices for the purpose of facilitating achievement for each student.
- Uses multiple student data elements for the purpose of assessing student progress, modifying instruction, and improving student learning.
- Communicates and collaborates with parents and school community for the purpose of fostering student success and achievement.
- Fosters and manages a safe, positive learning environment for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
- Maintains and submits information/records including student progress.
- Participates in various meetings for the purpose of implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
- Directs the work of assigned classified staff.
- Implements and complies with District policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.
- Maintains consistent attendance and conforms to regular work hours specified under contract.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience
- Current Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Elementary classroom experience
Required Skills, Knowledge and or Abilities
- Knowledge of applicable Washington State and federal rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of subject matter/course content relevant to assignment.
- Knowledge of and skills in using effective instructional strategies and practices.
- Knowledge of and skills in using various formative and summative assessments.
- Ability to effectively address a wide range of academic and social needs including at-risk, cultural diversity, English language learners, and special education students.
- Skills in effective planning and implementation of lessons based upon state standards, district curriculum and student needs.
- Skills in managing and promoting positive student behavior.
- Knowledge and understanding of elementary school philosophy.
- Ability to effectively meet developmental needs of elementary school students.
- Ability to interact and collaborate positively and effectively with parents, students, staff, and administrators.
- Skills in and ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Skills and abilities in organization, time management, and record keeping.
- Ability to operate technology devices and specific software programs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability and commitment to strengthen job-related competencies.
- Familiarity of instructional frameworks: Danielson
Physical Demands
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following conditions:
- Significant: (i.e., sitting, talking, hearing, walking, vision, color vision, peripheral/depth perception, ability to adjust focus, grasping, handling paperwork, repetitive motion, use of personal computer, looking at a computer monitor, lifting up to 10 pounds)
- Frequent: (i.e., standing, bending, carrying; use of phone; use of copy machine)
- Occasional: (i.e., driving, lifting over 10 pounds up to 45 pounds, reaching above the shoulder, use of fax machine)
