Multimedia Intern/Instructor

Hours: 20 hrs./wk. for 8 weeks

Dates: June 8, 2026 – July 31, 2026

Total Compensation: $3,600 USD ($450/week). Intern to be paid twice a month. 
 

Job Description

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW) is launching a media literacy and media production program for Club kids ages 14 – 18 called “The Blue Crew.” During the 2026 summer session, BGCGW will hire a college junior, senior, or graduate student studying multimedia production, journalism, psychology or related field as an intern to plan and instruct the media literacy and media production program, as well as assist in the execution of multimedia (video, photography) projects for BGCGW’s Marketing & Communications Department.
 
 Every week, the intern will execute five (5) hours of research/prep for lesson planning, five (5) hours of media literacy/production instruction, and ten (10) hours capturing, cataloging, and editing media (photographs, video) for BGCGW Marketing and Communications Department. Some of this work can be done remotely. 
 
 Media literacy/production programming and office-related work will be held at Boys & Girls Clubhouse #14, and/or Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington’s Shared Services—both are located at 4103 Benning Road, NE Washington, DC. 
 
Intern manager: Intern will report to, and work under the guidance, of the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington.
 

Intern Responsibilities

  • Research/write lesson plans for media literacy/media production program.
  • Instruct youth on media literacy/media production.
  • Photograph, film and edit assigned projects for BGCGW Marketing & Communications Department. 
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Attend four (4) virtual professional development sessions provided by internship grantor.* 

Intern Qualifications

  • A rising junior, senior undergraduate or graduate student studying Multimedia, Communications, Psychology or related field of study. 
  • Experience capturing and editing media (photo and/or video). 
  • Intern must possess computer/phone/camera/editing software and reliable method of transportation. 
  • Some prior internship and/or related-work experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent written, oral communications skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage time and prioritize work.
  • Team player with strong cross-functional skills (able to work independently while working remotely or on location).

*As part of the professional development offering, Atlantic Union Bank will host four virtual learning sessions for each sponsored intern. These will be hosted over Teams, and all interns are expected to participate. (Interns and host organizations will be asked to share feedback on their experience through a short survey) Professional meeting dates are as follows:

  • June 9th at 12 PM – Kickoff
  • June 25th at 3 PM – Know your worth
  • July 14th at 11 AM – How to show up on Linked-In
  • July 30th at 10 AM – Closing and sharing feedback
