Position Title: Hydrovac Laborer

Essential Functions:

The Hydrovac Laborer will work as part of a crew responsible for going into residential and commercial areas working on underground utilities and working with their crew to complete tasks for the day.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Direct movement of traffic through site, using sign, hand and flag signals.
  • Assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.
  • Inform drivers of detour routes through construction sites.
  • Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned.
  • Complete assigned traffic control tasks, which include but are not limited to operating a support vehicle to designated locations.
  • Pretrip equipment to ensure proper functionality.


Success Factors:

  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift
  • Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instruction
  • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-worker
  • Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
  • English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
  • Knowledge of basic underground utilities
  • Skills in operating heavy equipment and machines proficiently and safely
  • Ability to use time and equipment efficiently to complete projects on time
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Mapping and Print Reading
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience or training
  • Mechanical ability; and knowledge of equipment and heavy vehicle operation, maintenance, and repair
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional skills


Experience and Education:

  • 1-2 years of Manual Laboring Experience preferred
  • Standard Driver License Required
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis


Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certification:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
