Job Summary:

  • The Machine Shop Coordinator is responsible for executing and maintaining the machine shop schedule developed by the Master Scheduler. This role coordinates day‑to‑day workflow within the Machine Shop to ensure machining activities are executed according to plan, constraints are managed, and on‑time delivery commitments are met. The position serves as the primary execution link between the Master Scheduler, Machine Shop leadership, and cross‑functional partners.

Job Responsibilities & Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Executes the machine shop schedule by releasing, sequencing, and prioritizing work orders and dispatch reports as assigned across machine shop work centers.
  • Coordinates daily and weekly shop floor activities with the Machine Shop Supervisor and department leads to ensure adherence to the established plan.
  • Maintains accurate shop floor schedules and dispatch lists within the scheduling/MRP system to reflect current execution priorities.
  • Monitors material availability, tooling readiness, and routing accuracy to support timely execution of scheduled work.
  • Identifies execution issues such as capacity constraints, labor shortages, machine downtime, or material gaps and escalates them promptly to the Master Scheduler and Machine Shop Supervisor or Machine Shop Operations Manager.
  • Drives short‑term schedule adjustments, expediting, and re‑sequencing as needed to recover delays while staying aligned with the established plan.
  • Communicates shop status, risks, and recovery actions to the Master Scheduler and the Machine Shop Supervisor.
  • Ensures system data integrity for work order status, priorities, and completion reporting.
  • Supports on‑time delivery by monitoring actual output versus plan and notify the Machine Shop Supervisor to determine corrective actions.
  • Responsible for initiating non-conforming quality process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Occasional Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists with outside service coordination through manufacturing processes.
  • Supports cross‑training and collaboration with other manufacturing coordinators.
  • Participates in project reviews, kaizen events, and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinates with Engineering to ensure released work orders reflect current drawings, routings, and approved engineering changes.
  • Works closely with Purchasing and outside service providers to track subcontract machining and ensure commitments align with execution needs.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Prefers education of Associate’s Degree in business, Journeyman in machining, or a related discipline; or equivalent experience.
  • Prefers 3–5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing scheduling, production control, or shop floor coordination.
  • Working knowledge of MRP systems, work orders, routings, bills of material, and shop floor execution processes.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, routings, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to coordinate across departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and respond effectively in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
