Job Overview 
The Spray Technician is responsible for safely and effectively applying fertilizers and pesticides in accordance with all Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) regulations. This role operates largely independently in the field while collaborating closely with the fertilization team to deliver high-quality lawn and plant health care services, as well as pest management. In addition to performing applications, the Spray Technician maintains excellent client service while onsite, ensures accurate recordkeeping for regulatory, SDS, and OSHA compliance, and coordinates necessary materials and equipment to complete daily routes efficiently. 

Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Apply fertilizers and pesticides according to recommended rates and application procedures on both commercial and residential properties

  • Blend products according to recommended rates and procedures

  • Complete required documentation, application records, and compliance reporting per SDS and OSHA standards

  • Inspect properties for lawn and plant health concerns or cross-selling opportunities and communicate findings to department manager

  • Safely transport, mix, and handle chemicals according to label requirements

  • Wear and enforce proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times

  • Perform regular safety inspections and inventory of equipment, including company vehicle

  • Maintain all equipment and tools to ensure they are in good working order at all times

  • Assist with cross-training and support other production teams as needed

  • Deliver professional, courteous communication and service to clients when onsite

  • Other duties as assigned 

Job Requirements 

  • High school and/or college degree is preferred 

  • Licensed Commercial Pesticide Applicator, including Core, 3A, and 3B required or be willing to obtain

  • Industry specific certifications such as CGIP, ideal but not required

  • Possess a strong ability to multi-task and exercise efficiencies in time management

  • Ability to work independently and manage daily routes effectively

  • Possess superior interpersonal skills with clients, colleagues, and management, and do so with excellent written and verbal communication

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

  • Possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver’s License with clean driving record. CDL with class C endorsement, preferred.
