Job Description

The System Administrator Plans, develops, implements, monitors, and maintains the facility's Server Hardware and Software infrastructure. Assists with the training of staff in LAN/WAN/computer usage. Supports Hospital's mission to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory guidelines, meeting agency standards, and obtaining appropriate certification. 

 

JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • 1. Evaluates and/or recommends purchases of computers, network hardware, peripheral equipment, and software.
  • 2. Installs, configures, and maintains personal computers, file servers, ethernet networks and other related equipment, devices, and systems.
  • 3. Systems administration (including backup, security management, user account management, e-mail systems including e-mail web server, internet access, office systems and applications support).
  • 4. Performs and/or oversees software and application development, installation, and upgrades.
  • 5. Investigates user problems, identifies their source, determines possible solutions, tests and implements solutions.
  • 6. Establishes and implements a preventive maintenance schedule for the facility's server environment.
  • 7. Performs minor repairs to the facility's LAN, WAN, PC's, and related equipment as necessary.
  • 8. Plans and implements network security, including applying cryptography to network applications, managing host security, file permissions, backup and disaster recovery plans, file system integrity, and adding and deleting users.
  • 9. Oversees the backup of the LAN and WAN on a daily basis.
  • 10. Coordinates the provision of outside services for major repairs to the LAN, WAN, PC's and related equipment as necessary or directed.
  • 11. Assists staff with software application problems.
  • 12. Troubleshoots systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.
  • 13. Identifies utilization patterns and their effect on operation/system availability and performance expectations.
  • 14. Establishes and performs maintenance programs following company and vendor standards.
  • 15. Ensures timely user notification of maintenance requirements and effects on system availability.
  • 16. Maintains confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network.
  • 17. Documents system problems and resolutions for future reference.
  • 18. Maintains site licenses for department/organization.
  • 19. Investigates, recommends and installs enhancements and operating procedures that optimize system availability.
  • 20. Assists personnel of other departments as a computer resource.
  • 21. Manages small to medium sized projects according to agreed upon budgets and schedules.
  • 22. Develops, implements, and monitors documentation necessary to maintain the integrity of the facility's server environment.
  • 23. Implements security measures as directed by the CIO or Director of Information Services.
  • 24. Answers the Help Desk Lines during business hours and provides technical support to the user community while performing help desk assignment.
  • 25. Properly logs in to Help Desk tracking system all calls received while performing Help Desk assignment.
  • 26. Recognizes when an issue needs to be escalated to management for problem resolution or as a matter of established policy.
  • 27. Answers all telephone inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
  • 28. Works in conjunction with other staff members to plan, implement and maintain all IP Telephony systems within the organization.
  • 29. Monitors and archives all system log files for future reference and in accordance with Local, State and Federal guidelines.
  • 30. Other duties as assigned.
