Job Description

General Responsibilities


The position exists to function as part of the network of assistance for students and families in Norfolk Public School’s Title I Schools. This position supports division-wide Family Engagement to ensure program effectiveness and the accessibility of the Parent Resource Center. This position supports in communication and activities across school division sites among teachers, students, parents, the community, family engagement specialist, and school administrators.


 


Education and Experience



  • Eligible for, or in possession of, appropriate Virginia Teaching License

  • Leadership ability (i.e. organizational and managerial)

  • Experience and skill using technology

  • Must have reliable transportation


Essential Job Functions


 


The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:





    • Demonstrates knowledge of McKinney-Vento Assistance Act and families’ educational rights 

    • Provides outstanding customer service in all forms of communication with identified McKinney-Vento families

    • Collaborates with department McKinney-Vento Case Managers regarding supports and services

    • Operates, organizes, and maintains inventory and supplies for the Family Welcome and Wellness Center

    • Ensures the Welcome and Wellness Center provides a welcoming, trauma-informed, and confidential environment

    • Assists with preparing and submitting orders for supplies

    • Utilizes Onflo (Let’s Talk K12 Insight), Synergy, and Google Drive to document services and communication

    • Serves as a backup driver to assist with deliveries and/or transportation to school for identified McKinney-Vento families

    • Maintains accurate records related to services provided to McKinney-Vento families

    • Support distribution of basic needs items (e.g., school supplies, hygiene items, uniforms, etc.) to eligible families

    • Provides community resources to support students and families

    • Engages the community and consultants for programs and collaboration opportunities at the Family Welcome and Wellness Center

    • Maintains a daily log and completes accountability reports as required.

    • Models non-discriminatory practices in all interactions

    • Keeps abreast of all federal and state regulations related to McKinney-Vento

    • Attend Project HOPE–Virginia “Charlie Check-In” meetings to remain informed of state updates, compliance requirements, and best practices related to the McKinney-Vento Act, ensuring services for identified families remain aligned and effective.

    • Demonstrate strong facilitation, communication (both oral and written), and strong interpersonal skills

    • Demonstrate skills in using technology

    • Demonstrate problem solving and organizational skills

    • Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, families, and staff.

    • Performs any other related duties as assigned 




 


This part-time position is allotted up to 29 hours of work per week.
