Description
As a Material Handler Technician I at Superior Tire and Rubber Corp., you will begin training on basic inspections, operations, and use of our powered industrial trucks. You will learn and understand the layout of our facility and how to interact with it and the basic flow of how materials move. The primary responsibilities in the Technician I position are completing assigned driving routes that will include waste stream pickups, department to department product movement through our facility and maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
Essential Job Functions for Technician I:
- Daily shift to shift hand off with previous shift, communicating on where you are within assigned route, any pertinent updates and product delivery updates.
- Attend training and pass written and physical driving exams on safe PIT (Powered Industrial Truck) operation.
- Drive PIT in a safe, predictable manner according to safety procedures and PIT training classes.
- Attend daily, and monthly safety meetings
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures
- Report unsafe and/or potentially dangerous situations to supervisory personnel immediately
- Use and monitor personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. This includes gloves, protective sleeves, safety glasses, ear plugs, assigned winter/rain gear and any similar safety equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the shop, cleaning up any messes made in transit, according to the principles of 5S and the Superior Production System (SPS). Tools, equipment, and measuring devices are to be kept clean and put back into place.
- Safely and properly transport WIP, raw materials, and waste in various vessels. This includes but is not limited to hoppers, baskets, pallets, dumpsters, and garbage cans. throughout the facility. This is to be done according to our Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) training course.
- Verify and record PIT inspections at the beginning of each shift. Report any unsatisfactory findings to supervisory personnel immediately.
- Ensure that all inventory, WIP, and raw materials are properly labeled and identified prior to moving to the next area or specific “outbox”.
- Ensure that all materials are properly secured to a stable vessel prior to transport. If vessels have not been properly secured or the vessel itself lacks structural integrity notify supervisory personnel immediately.
- Inspect all loads prior to movement to ensure proper weight distribution and confirm that weight-bearing pallets, containers, and securing methods are stable and structurally sound.
- Correct load stability or securing deficiencies when they can be safely addressed.
- Immediately escalate unsafe or recurring load integrity concerns to the area/shift supervisor and direct supervisor; involve EHS when hazards cannot be safely mitigated.
- Communicate load-related hazards and ensure full resolution prior to transporting materials or placing loads into rack storage.
- Understand and transport waste steams to the proper disposal areas
- Safely and properly dispose of all waste streams
- Assists EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) technician(s) with staging of waste
Requirements
Required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment):
- Safety glasses are always required while in the production facility. In designated areas, foam-lined safety glasses are required.
- Steel-toed boots with accompanying or built-in metatarsal guards are required.
- Kevlar cut-resistant gloves and sleeves are required when using an open blade, parts with sharp edges and/or sharp burs, dumping metal chip hoppers or handling any sharp/dangerous material.
- Face shields are required during all grinding operations.
- General use gloves should be worn when handling any materials by hand EX: (pallets, plastic banding, using pallet bander etc.)
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- Full Time Non-Exempt
- Monday through Friday
- Weekends as needed.
- Required to work on site 100% of the time.
Travel:
- To on-site premises only
- Minimum travel in between facilities

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a shop environment, and outside

Physical Demands:
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While performing the duties of this job you will be required to stand for long periods of time, lift up to 50-100lbs, endure hot/cold temperatures, be able to sit on and drive a fork truck for extended periods of time, and use your hands and fingers to work on a computer. The employee will need to stand, talk, see and hear.
Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 1 year of PIT experience
- Manufacturing experience preferred

- Basic math skills and ability to use measuring tools.
- Physical ability to lift and move materials as needed.
