Job Description

About the Department

Instructor teaches basic academics, life skills, and decision-making skills to a small group of adult students with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Curriculum is provided by the college. Course content includes reading for comprehension, counting and using money, and filling out simple forms. Candidates should have good communication and interpersonal skills.

Class will meet Monday through Friday (five day/week) from 9AM until 11AM. Class will be located at the Rutherford Hughes Center in downtown Burnsville, NC.

Position Duties

•Facilitates instructional lessons to help adult learners improve their foundational skills
•Delivers engaging instructional sessions for adult learners
•Discusses and helps set appropriate goals with each student
•Maintains accurate records and related paperwork to be submitted to the office in a punctual manner
•Sustains positive, professional relationships and communication with students, partners, and colleagues
•Communicates effectively with the administrative team in person, through email, and by telephone
•Participates in staff development sessions, trainings, and other college functions as appropriate
•No outside class duties required

Minimum Qualifications

•Good interpersonal and communication skills
•Considerable discretion in the handling of confidential information and sensitive materials
•Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

•Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities
