Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Facilities Services, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the daily operations of campus facilities through a wide range of maintenance, logistics, and event support functions. This role includes coordinating and executing deliveries, transporting materials and equipment, installing and removing seasonal assets such as window air conditioning units, and supporting campus events through set-up, breakdown, and tent installation. The position requires the ability to perform general maintenance tasks including light carpentry, painting, repairs, and installation of fixtures across a variety of building surfaces.

Working closely with the Operations Manager and other campus partners, the Maintenance Technician follows work order assignments, ensures timely completion and reporting, and contributes to an organized and efficient workflow across campus. The role also involves operating tools and equipment, performing preventive maintenance, assisting with snow and ice removal, and adhering to all safety standards and OSHA regulations to maintain a safe and functional campus environment.

Responsibilities

The primary focus of the Maintenance Technician position is to support the daily operations of campus facilities through maintenance, logistics, and event support services.

  • Perform deliveries of packages to campus buildings throughout the day.
  • Operate a non-CDL work truck to transport and retrieve materials, including large or heavy items, from on- and off-campus locations.
  • Install window air conditioning units in the spring and remove them in the fall (approximately 65–100 units annually).
  • Perform set-up and tear-down for campus events, including luncheons, large meetings, commencement, and other special events.
  • Install, remove, and safely store school-owned tents as needed for events.
  • Coordinate daily work activities with the Operations Manager, Mail Room Technician, and other campus partners to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Perform off-campus errands to obtain supplies and materials as needed.
  • Follow work order instructions and provide daily status updates for entry into the SchoolDude system.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools, including drills, saws, and related equipment.
  • Perform light demolition, carpentry, painting, and general maintenance repairs across campus facilities.
  • Install fixtures such as shelving, bulletin boards, whiteboards, and wall hangings on a variety of surfaces.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment as directed.
  • Follow OSHA standards and industry safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with snow and ice removal from campus roads, walkways, and other surfaces using both manual and powered equipment.
  • Assist other Facilities team members as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
  • 3-5 Years of experience in the repair and maintenance of institutional type buildings and building systems.
  • Ability to read basic assembly/disassembly instructions, wiring diagrams and instructional manuals in print or online.
  • Ability to operate equipment powered by small engines (pressure washers, snow blowers, etc.).
  • Knowledge and expert use of a wide variety of hand tools.
  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or 3-6 months related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Essential duties involve standing, crouching, sitting, bending, stretching, climbing, and crawling on a regular basis. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus in dimly lit areas.
