Job Description

Position Title: Intervention Specialist - Moderate to Intensive

Findlay City Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Moderate to Severe Intervention Specialist to join our team. The intervention specialist provides specialized instruction and support to students with moderate to severe disabilities and behaviors, ensuring access to high-quality education and promoting their academic, social, and functional development. This position requires a strong commitment to meeting the unique needs of students with disabilities and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to create inclusive learning environments and a school experience that will optimize every child’s potential for lifelong learning.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with moderate to severe disabilities, setting appropriate goals and objectives based on assessment data and student needs.
  • Instructional Planning and Delivery: Provide direct instruction in academic subjects, functional skills, social skills, behavior, and life skills using evidence-based strategies and specialized instructional techniques tailored to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Adapted Curriculum: Adapt and modify curriculum materials and instructional resources to make them accessible and meaningful for students with moderate to severe disabilities, ensuring alignment with state standards and IEP goals.
  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Conduct ongoing assessments and progress monitoring to evaluate students' academic, behavioral, and functional performance, adjust instruction as needed, and report progress to parents, guardians, and IEP team members.
  • Behavior Support: Implement positive behavior support strategies, individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and de-escalation techniques to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment and address challenging behaviors.
  • Collaboration and Consultation: Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, and other stakeholders to coordinate services, share expertise, and promote inclusive practices that support the success of students with disabilities.
  • Family Engagement: Establish positive relationships with parents, guardians, and families, involve them in the IEP process, and provide support, resources, and training to enhance their capacity to support their child's learning and development at home.
  • Professional Development: Participate in professional development activities, workshops, conferences, and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills related to serving students with moderate to severe disabilities and stay informed about best practices in special education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Special Education
  • Ohio Intervention Specialist License for Moderate to Severe Disabilities (or equivalent certification/license)
  • Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities in educational settings, preferably in a special education classroom or inclusion setting.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices, differentiated instruction, and individualized education planning for students with disabilities.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and empathy when working with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Have already completed or is willing to complete Safety-Care Training
