Position Summary: Responsible for all aspects of the operation and maintenance of assigned buildings and facilities for the Carnegie Institution for Science, including 24/7 emergency response to critical issues.
Essential Duties:
Negotiate contracts and provide supervision of a variety of contracted support services required to maintain the facilities, to include, but not limited to, janitorial, trash, HVAC, metasys, electrical, water, gas, plumbing, SCADA control system, telephone and voice/data cabling systems, specialized scientific supplies
Supervise, train, and oversee Facilities staff
Develop and oversee preventative maintenance programs for facilities infrastructure and equipment, using in-house staff or outside contracted support, as required
Provide assistance in facilities and workstation design, estimation and construction
Provide construction management for both minor and major construction projects
Provide installation and maintenance support for a wide variety of laboratory equipment and research environments
Generate Request for Proposal (RFP) documents to select appropriate vendors and make cost effective purchases of equipment, supplies and services
Support Laboratory Safety program defining and maintaining quality fire, earthquake, equipment, radioactivity and biohazard safety programs
24/7 emergency response to critical issues
Interact with internal staff such as division leader(s), Business Manager(s), IT manager(s) and Scientific and administrative staff
Interact with representatives from partner University and city or local government agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Stationary Engineer License grade 3 or higher
8+ years of experience in facilities management
Thorough working knowledge of the following building systems, their operations, and related operating equipment: HVAC, electrical, and plumbing
Carpentry, general maintenance, and related facility skills
An understanding of facilities maintenance procedures and building codes
Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
