Job Description

•Analyze malfunctions, perform repairs and maintain mobile cranes, facility cranes and miscellaneous equipment as identified in the NAVFAC P-307; power equipment such as Pole &Line Maintenance Trucks, Aerial Service Platform Maintenance Trucks, Engine Powered Articulating and Telescopic Boom Lifts.

•Troubleshoot equipment systems and subsystems including hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic; diagnose and identify procedures to correct deficiencies and malfunctions.

•Perform unscheduled and scheduled maintenance as prescribed by OEM and P-307.

•Remove, disassemble, rebuild, and reinstall systems such as booms, hoists, outrigger beams. Examine components for damage or excessive wear using a variety of hand and power tools,gauges, and micrometers.

•Test, adjust and repair subsystems with hydraulic/pneumatic/electrical components, various control systems, safety devices such as Load Moment Indicators, ATB block, data systems, re-program load moment systems, program and calibrate pulse computer and associated safety /electrical control components.

•Remove, install, and rebuild, hydraulic cylinders, pumps, swivels, valves, and control systems. Disassemble, inspect, and repair and/or make recommendations on required materials and repairs.

•Identify the function and operation of single speed, two speed, step type, secondary reactor and adjustable frequency A.C. crane controls, analyze power and control circuits, identify problematic motor symptoms and correct their causes, perform system tests and make required adjustments, analyze operating characteristics for control system failures, troubleshoot, adjust and test.

•Perform brake electrical adjustments and troubleshooting, perform electrical preventative maintenance procedures, troubleshooting and repairs on 3-Phase and Single Phase A.C. motors,speed control introduction, protection circuits, brakes, multi-speed magnetic controls and adjustable frequency controls.

•Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

•Must have a minimum of five (5) years’ related experience.

•Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

•Must be able to read and interpret AC/DC electrical schematics and diagrams, and troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, integrated electric-hydraulic systems and controls.

• Must be able to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic drawings and schematics, use precision meters and gauges in performance of troubleshooting and making adjustments.

• Must be able to take and pass, within 90 days of employment, the Crane Mechanic and Mobile Crane Mechanic training courses as identified in the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Navy Crane Center P-307 – Weight Handling Program Management.

DESIRED:

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Level or some certifications; Knowledge of computer diagnostic equipment; Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
