Job Description

This class performs multiple tasks and elementary review work of land development plans for code compliance and assists more experienced planners in the performance of their duties.

 

This is a "mandatory-testing" position that requires Drug Testing.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Prepares a variety of reports, including the annual report, by conducting research, gathering data, coordinating information with applicable departments, analyzing and editing information, and performing other related activities

 

Prepares amendments to land development codes to implement changes as directed

 

Conducts a variety of research in order to disseminate findings to appropriate individuals

 

Prepares a variety of correspondence to internal staff, external agencies, and other interested parties to submit correspondence to appropriate individuals

 

Coordinates and prepares for meetings by gathering project information, creating related documents and maps, creating agendas, sending out legal reviews, posting advertisements for public hearings, compiling and disseminating Board packets, preparing minutes, following up on action items; and performing other related activities

 

Prepares staff criteria worksheets for rezoning cases

 

Processes small and large-scale amendment applications

 

Performs other duties as assigned 

 

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

 

Training and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning or related field and at least three months of a practicum or internship experience in planning, or one year of technician experience; or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements

 

Licenses and Certifications:

Must possess a valid driver's license from state of residence

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics (KSAOs):

urban planning principles

project evaluation principles and practices

social and environmental impacts of urban planning

geographic information systems

applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes

analyzing demographic information to discern trends in population, employment, and health

providing customer service

using a computer and related software applications

interpreting and applying applicable laws, rules, and regulations

reviewing project information and determining compliance with applicable ordinance requirements and restrictions

reading and interpreting maps and plans

preparing maps

communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Emergency Management Responsibilities:

During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.

 

Physical Requirements: 

Positions in this class typically require grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity as well as repetitive motions. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work. Incumbents may be subjected to travel.
