Role Summary 

The Bat Attendant collects any equipment discarded by the batter, as well as retrieving foul balls that remain in the field of play, provides new balls to the umpire, and performs other tasks as needed by the teams or umpires on the field. 

Hours for this role vary, but mostly gamedays, which consists of nights, weekends, and some holidays. 

Requirements

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Retrieving bats, helmets, or other equipment from the field of play between batters or between innings and removing all equipment from the on-deck circle of the team which batted the previous half-inning. 
  • Retrieves foul balls. 
  • Provides new baseballs to the home plate umpire. 
  • Rubs baseballs and stocks bullpen bag. 
  • Collect homerun, foul balls, and broken bats during batting practice.
  • Fill water coolers and take them to the dugouts, refill water as needed. 
  • Take seeds, gum, cups and towels to the dugouts. 
  • Maintains the bat rack, helmet rack, and equipment rack organization throughout the game. 
  • Assists clubhouse manager in packing up the equipment from the dugout before the game. 
  • Assist home clubhouse manager and visiting clubhouse manager with set ups/clean ups of dugouts, locker rooms, equipment and on-field supplies. 
  • Help around the clubhouse when requested. 
  • Provide excellent customer service to the umpires, coaches, and players. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Basic understanding of the game and rules of baseball, knowledge situations of the game. 
  • Must be 16 years or older, candidates under 18 will need to obtain a valid worker's permit. 

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic with an innate sense of urgency and tenacity.
  • Ability to use independent judgement and to manage and impart information. 
  • The ability to work independently and as a part of a team. 
  • Excellent communication skills, including active listening. 
  • Service oriented and able to resolve customer issues. 
  • Possess the ability to multitask and adjust to rapidly changing business conditions. 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Constant standing, walking, running, bending, lifting and carrying repeatedly for the duration of the shift.  
  • Frequently lifts, pulls and pushes up to XX pounds. 
  • Will work in different types of weather (Ex. Rain, Hot, Cold). 
  • Visual Acquity to scan for threat of bats, balls, and other objects liable to be present and active.
