Job Description

The Manager, Roll Outsourcing & Procurement Optimization is responsible for establishing and leading a centralized outsourcing function for roll repair activities across North America. This role is designed to alleviate internal capacity constraints, improve turnaround times, and enhance overall operational efficiency by leveraging qualified external vendors.

In addition, the position plays a key role in supporting shop procurement activities by improving parts availability, reducing lead times, and optimizing inventory management. The role operates as an extension of internal shop capabilities, effectively functioning as a “virtual shop” to drive throughput, revenue growth, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Roll Outsourcing Leadership

  • Establish and lead a centralized outsourcing function for roll repairs to mitigate capacity constraints within internal shop operations.
  • Enable direct routing of rolls to qualified external vendors, bypassing internal inspection bottlenecks when appropriate.
  • Act as the single point of accountability for outsourced repairs, managing the full lifecycle including scope definition, vendor selection, execution, and delivery.
  • Ensure all external vendors comply with OEM standards, technical specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Review and validate vendor inspection reports to ensure alignment with internal standards and customer expectations.
  • Leverage internal technical expertise and existing supplier agreements to support vendor alignment and technical decision-making.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales and customers to align outsourcing strategies with delivery commitments and commercial priorities.
  • Optimize workload distribution between internal shops and external vendors to maximize network efficiency and throughput.
  • Operate as a “virtual shop,” expanding operational capacity without additional capital investment.
  • Drive revenue growth by unlocking constrained capacity, particularly within inspection processes.

Procurement & Supply Chain Support

  • Improve overall lead times by proactively managing and expediting outsourced repairs and critical vendor-supplied components.
  • Identify and resolve parts-related bottlenecks within the repair process, with a strong focus on vendor responsiveness and turnaround.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Sales to enhance inventory management through centralization and improved demand planning.
  • Reduce excess and obsolete inventory (OSMI) while ensuring material availability aligns with sales forecasts and operational requirements.
  • Standardize outsourcing processes, vendor performance metrics, and decision-making criteria across the organization.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience in operations, manufacturing, supply chain, or outsourcing/vendor management.
  • Strong understanding of repair processes, technical specifications, and quality standards in an industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional stakeholders in a matrix organization.
  • Experience in vendor selection, performance management, and contract utilization.
