JOB SUMMARY
The Science Lab Coordinator (.5 FTE) is responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and organization of science laboratory facilities and materials to support instruction in biology, chemistry, physics, and other science-related courses. This position ensures a safe, efficient, and effective lab environment for students and faculty, and supports faculty in delivering high-quality, hands-on science education.
Position Duties
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Prepare laboratory materials, equipment, and supplies for scheduled science classes.
- Maintain inventory of lab supplies and equipment; order materials as needed.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and disposal of chemicals and biological materials in compliance with safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Assist faculty with lab setup and breakdown, and provide technical support during lab sessions as needed.
- Develop and maintain safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
- Train and supervise student workers or lab assistants, if applicable.
- Collaborate with faculty to improve lab experiences and support curriculum development.
Non-Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Participate in departmental meetings and professional development activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
- Exposure to chemicals, biological materials, and laboratory equipment.
- Must follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Associate degree in a science-related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably in an educational environment.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and chemical handling protocols.
- Experience with inventory management and lab equipment maintenance.
