Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Advanced Mechanical Engineer position is responsible for projects of considerable scope and complexity.  This position interacts frequently with other internal professionals across functional lines within the business cell and also interacts with external customers and suppliers on routine technical issues as required.  In addition, this position may exercise considerable influence over other functional areas to resolve problems to complete assigned work on schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:

  • Produces and reconfigures complete machine design packages using new/existing technology used within the industry.
  • Generates the Bill of Material and related documentation for all assigned projects.
  • Maintains project schedules and completes assigned projects within allocated hours.
  • Required to travel to customer sites to resolve machine/commissioning problems when necessary. 
  • Supervises Assistant Designers/Detailers, which includes directing their work and completing their performance reviews.
  • Mentors and coaches new engineers.
  • Interacts in a professional manner frequently with internal associates, external customers and suppliers.
  • Identifies opportunities for cost reductions and quality improvements in equipment.
  • Provides machine design instructions to members of his/her design team, working with them to resolve concerns with their projects.
  • Performs engineering analysis on critical form and function areas.
  • Promotes/utilizes corporate processes
    • Design and Development
    • Verification and Validation
    • Engineering Change Control
    • Risk Assessment for all machine designs
  • Responsible for complying with all safety policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Consistently exceeded expectations in previous role.

  • Computer Aided Design/Drafting (CAD) experience (Cadra and SolidWorks preferred).

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in packaging machine design or equivalent education and/or experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated success in the design of packaging machines.
