Job Description

The Specialized Foundation Executive Director

Position Description:

The Specialized Foundation, a newly formed non-profit of Specialized Bicycle Components, is

seeking an Executive Director to develop and lead this major initiative dedicated to transforming

kids lives through youth cycling programs. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive

Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for The Foundation’s

programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. Initial emphasis will be to develop and

establish priorities with the Board of Directors, as well as to develop strong measures of success.

Responsibilities:

Leadership & Management:

  • Ensure ongoing program success, program evaluation and reporting, and consistent
  • quality of finance and administration, fundraising, and communications; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals
  • Develop a strong Board of Directors
  • Actively engage Foundation board members, partnering organizations, and funders
  • Develop strong measures of success and ensure effective systems to track progress and regularly evaluate program components

Fundraising & Communications:

  • Identify and represent The Foundation at key networking and speaking events
  • Work with Specialized Global Marketing, Advocacy, and PR teams to deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a strong brand
  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities
  • Develop fundraising goals and activities to support program operations and expansion
  • Publish an annual report and communicate program results to internal and external stakeholders

Planning & Development:

  • Design a strategy for national and global expansion
  • Work with global teams to begin to build partnerships in new markets, establishing relationships with potential funders and community leaders

Desired experience includes:

  • Background in education, health, and/or startup business/entrepreneur
  • Experience leading or building a Foundation, non-profit, or social enterprise
  • Interest in health, fitness, and how it relates to brain functionality and overall wellbeing, particularly with youth
  • Passionate yet humble leader who excels at rallying groups around a cause
  • Easily adaptable to diverse audiences and cultures
  • Cycling enthusiast preferred but not required
  • Experience with operations that span across multiple countries

  Additional Items:

  Ability to initially spend at least one day a week at Specialized Headquarters in Morgan Hill, CA
