Job Description

The Head of Change will act as a trusted advisor to ExCo, providing leadership, challenge and direction across a complex, multi entity financial services environment. 

The European Change Team is part of USBE’s CAO Function and works closely with the entire Executive Committee team, as well as leading Operations Change Management. 

The Head of Change helps deliver on U.S. Bank Europe’s strategy through partnerships with key business lines, developing and implementing programs to achieve key business outcomes.  

As a senior leader within the CAO team, from time to time, additional teams or responsibilities may be included requiring general management and leadership or guidance. 

You will demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills to consult with internal teams on goals, strategies, and key initiatives. This includes strong influencing skills as well as proven project management and communication skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Strategy & Transformation Leadership

  • Own the execution of the European Change & Transformation Strategy, aligned to enterprise objectives, regulatory expectations and financial performance targets.
  • Translate strategic priorities into a coherent, multi‑year roadmap, balancing growth, cost efficiency, risk, and capability build.
  • Act as a visible change leader, shaping the narrative for transformation and creating momentum across senior leaders and teams.
  • Provide independent challenge and insight to Executive Management on the viability, sequencing and risk of major initiatives.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and strategic awareness in navigating and leading M&A / integration activity
     

Change Portfolio Ownership

  • Maintains, leads and directs the European Management Agenda, including prioritisation, capacity and budget management, dependency mapping and data based benefits realization.
  • Create confidence in the organizations ability to deliver change well.
  • Ensure the change agenda is focused on outcomes, with clear linkages to revenue growth, cost efficiency, operational resilience and compliance.
  • Establish and maintain robust change governance, including quality assurance, standard methodologies, and delivery discipline.
  • Navigate complex organizational structures and interactions with other change related teams such as Product, Regulatory Change Management and business line change owners. Influence and ownership of the portfolio should extend beyond direct reporting lines and be inclusive in nature.

Leadership, Culture & Capability

  • Build, lead and continuously develop a high‑performing Change function, with clear accountability, capability depth and succession.
  • Coach and mentor senior change leaders, fostering a culture of ownership, delivery excellence and constructive challenge.
  • Proactive in developing and mentoring of staff creating a high performing team
  • Influence senior leaders across business lines to embed change accountability, rather than treating change as an overlay. Provide playbooks or coaching for predictable, repeatable initiatives.
  • Act as a role model for ethical leadership, inclusion and collaboration.

Risk, Controls & Regulatory Alignment

  • Ensure change activity is aligned with risk appetite, control framework and regulatory obligations.
  • Ensure initiatives that materially impact the firms risk profile are appropriately governed and escalated.
  • Support regulatory engagement where transformation initiatives are material to supervisory priorities.

Executive & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Operate as a key member of the senior leadership community, contributing to ExCo discussions and strategic decision‑making.
  • Provide clear, insightful reporting to Executive Management, ExCo and Boards on transformation progress, risks and outcomes.
  • Build strong partnerships to drive joined‑up delivery.
  • Represent the CAO function with confidence and credibility in senior forums.
  • Be comfortable holding tension and making difficult prioritisation decisions

Key Deliverables

  • A clearly articulated European Management Agenda highlighting Change and Transformation initiatives. An ability to preempt areas needing executive intervention and an awareness as to how to influence.
  • A disciplined, transparent change prioritisation and governance framework
  • Tangible improvements in efficiency, execution discipline and delivery confidence
  • A mature, sustainable Change capability embedded across the organisation

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as leader of a Change Team or Programme Director.
  • Significant experience leading complex, enterprise‑wide transformation within financial services or a highly regulated environment.
  • Experience operating in a multi‑entity, European regulated environment
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills; Exceptional influencer; Ability to develop and articulate vision and direction
  • Proven ability to operate at Executive and Board level, influencing and challenging senior stakeholders.
  • Well-developed reporting, oral, written and communication skills, consultancy experience relevant. Strong analytical skills in building succinct communications.
  • Ability to build Change teams, frameworks and protocols, strong change management disciplines; Ability to motivate team towards achieving goals
  • In-depth understanding of governance and regulatory standards; Proven track record in implementation of effective compliance and control standards
  • Strong commercial acumen with a track record of delivering measurable business outcomes.
  • Deep understanding of change governance, delivery assurance and risk management.
  • Familiarity with regulatory change, operational resilience and large‑scale operating model transformation
