Description

The After School Program Youth Instructor will, under the supervision of the Youth Director, provide a safe, fun learning environment while engaging children in various constructive activities, assisting with homework, and providing mentorship by exemplifying and by reinforcing positive behavior.

Requirements

1.     PROGRAM MANAGEMENT


 


  • Assist in Sign-In/Attendance of children when necessary.
  • Wash and sanitize all tables before and after lunch.
  • Serve lunch to all children and ensure that the used area is cleaned immediately after lunch is complete.
  • Help plan activity for children during assigned program.
  • Place all materials used during program in their proper location at the end of the day.
  • Remain alert during bus rides to and from any off-site locations.
  • Follow up with any reward systems (i.e. sticker chart, student of the week, etc.).
  • Double-check all areas used for materials left behind and to ensure cleanliness.
  • Possess a first aid kit at all times and refilling when necessary.
  • Hand out flyers and notices to parents during pick-up.
  • Complete incident and /or injury reports when necessary and report any issues to Youth Director.
  • Meet with respective Youth Instructors to plan and outline program schedule for the following week.

 


2.   MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT


Builds relationships with and among participants, responds to inquiries and solves problems.  Creates a safe and supportive community environment, and connects participants to the YMCA’s cause. 


 


3.   FACILITY MANAGEMENT


Work with Youth Director to provide program facilities for participants that are safe, clean, adequately equipped, well-maintained, and attractive.


 


4.   VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT


Builds and develops volunteer capacity, sharing the social responsibility.


  


5.   COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT


Assists in YMCA fund raising activities/events, and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community.

QUALIFICATIONS:


 


  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Excellent communication skills, and demonstrated poise and professionalism when addressing concerns and interacting with people.
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher - High School students only

 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS


 


The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand; walk and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
