Position: Teacher Assistant, Special Education


 


Position Summary: Wayland Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and nurturing Teaching Assistant to join our team. This role is ideal for an educator who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of our youngest learners.


 


Duties and Responsibilities (Not limited to): 



  • Provide academic support to students with special needs in both specialized and general education settings

  • Assist students in accessing English Language Arts instruction within the Language Based Classroom

  • Support students’ participation in general education classes including science, social studies, and mathematics

  • Review and help organize students’ academic workload

  • Facilitate access to and adaptation of academic materials

  • Assist students in participating in appropriate classroom activities and routines

  • Support classroom teachers with instructional responsibilities, both directly and indirectly related to students with special needs

  • Supervise students and program activities as directed by the immediate supervisor

  • Communicate with families regarding academic priorities when appropriate

  • Participate in training as needed to support the physical and/or behavioral needs of students

  • Work collaboratively with district and school staff to promote equitable access and address systemic barriers

  • Perform other related duties as assigned


 


Qualifications:



  • Education: High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Experience: Previous experience working with elementary-aged children is highly preferred.

  • Cultural Competency: Experience with diverse populations and a strong commitment to Wayland’s goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion.


Professionalism: Strong communication skills and the personal characteristics necessary to serve as a positive role model for students.


 


Education and Experience: 



  • Advanced Degree: Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred

  • DESE Licensure: Not required; paraprofessional certification preferred

  • SEI Endorsement: Not required


 


Work Schedule and Compensation: 



  • Hours: 30.08 per week

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:45am-2:30pm

  • Wednesday: 7:30am-1:35pm

  • Salary: $23.63-$30.29 an hour
