Job Description

West Michigan Academy of Arts & Academics is hiring a full time Visual Arts Teacher for the upcoming school year.  Must have teacher certification and endorsement. 

West Michigan Academy of Arts & Academics is a TK-8 public school academy chartered by Grand  Valley State University. We are located in Spring Lake and our students come from many surrounding  districts in Ottawa and Muskegon counties. WMAAA focuses on arts integration and high academic  achievement. We have a great team of teachers and staff who have been supporting and educating  creative, artistic, and academically high achieving students for over 25 years! We are looking for an  experienced, successful educator to join our team. Openings like this at our school are rare!  

MISSION: Create life-long community through arts integration 

Position: Full-time pK-8 visual arts teacher. Partner Solutions is seeking a certified teacher for West  Michigan Academy of Arts and Academics (WMAAA), a public-school academy in Spring Lake, MI. 

Duties: Include teaching visual arts to all pK-8 students. Prepare students with creation of work for public  display, support middle school with their capstone project, work as a team with arts team and all staff.  Other duties include, but are not limited to, attending regular staff meetings, serving on school-related  committees and participating in professional growth and development conferences. 

Qualifications 

• The successful candidate will lead a program that integrates visual arts into student life and  supports the development of confident, culturally awareness, and artistically-capable student’s • Valid Michigan teaching certificate – Visual Arts K-12  

• Strong content knowledge and experience in various visual arts media including; painting, drawing,  ceramics, print making, digital, sculpture, and mixed media 

• Proven organizational skills in showing student work in various venues, like student art shows,  posting work around the school, etc 

• Commitment to inclusive practices and fostering a safe, supportive environment for all learners 

Responsibilities 

• Teaching visual arts courses pK-8 

• Student art show – collaborate with other art teacher to prepare and curate student art, install/de install the show, hold public reception 

• Supporting student development in visual arts skills 

• Support other arts team members with student performances 

• Collaborates with families and other staff members to ensure academic success of students • Evaluates and monitors students' progress on a periodic basis 

• Cooperate with teachers, parents, and community members 

• Offer individual help to students to ensure satisfactory progress

• Support planning and executing summer arts camp 

• After school and evening activities are necessary at times for rehearsals and performances  • Perform other duties as assigned
