About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Business Leader – NZ Grocery, the National Account Manager is accountable for the total commercial performance and strategic growth of a major grocery customer across an assigned category portfolio.

 

This role is a critical leadership position within the NZ business, responsible for shaping medium‑term (6–24 month) customer and category strategy, owning the end‑to‑end account P&L, and leading the development and execution of the Joint Business Plan (JBP). The NAM operates as a strategic partner to senior customer leadership and plays a key role in influencing category direction, investment decisions, and long‑term growth platforms.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the Joint Business Planning (JBP) process and develop clear, data‑led account strategies
  • Own total account P&L, including revenue, trade spend, margin, ROI and forecasting
  • Deliver sustainable growth in revenue, share and profitability
  • Translate shopper, consumer and category insights into executable customer strategies
  • Lead senior‑level negotiations and operate confidently at Business Manager / Head of Merchandise level
  • Shape innovation strategies and portfolio expansion plans
  • Lead and develop Account Manager(s), building strong commercial capability
  • Drive cross‑functional alignment across Sales, Marketing, Category, Finance, Demand & Supply
  • Ensure strong sales governance, trade discipline and compliance with commercial policy

 

About You

You are a commercially astute FMCG leader with a proven track record in strategic account management and full P&L ownership. You thrive in complex, fast‑paced environments and are comfortable influencing senior customer stakeholders through insight, credibility, and partnership.

 

You will bring:

  • 8–12+ years FMCG commercial experience
  • Demonstrated ownership of full P&L accountability
  • Experience operating at senior customer leadership level
  • Strong financial literacy and trade investment management capability
  • Proven leadership and coaching experience
  • Ability to lead complex cross‑functional workstreams end‑to‑end
  • A values‑led approach aligned with Sanitarium’s mission and principles

 

A tertiary qualification in Business, Marketing, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
