JOB SUMMARY:


This position focuses on supporting schools with Section 504 eligibility and writing 504 plans. The job of School Psychologist is for the purpose of measuring and interpreting the intellectual, adaptive, academic, social and emotional development of children; interpreting results of psychological studies; interpreting and applying state and federal codes; and developing strategies and interventions to address the 504 needs of eligible students.

The student population that school psychologists work with includes, but is not limited to, those with various degrees of disability, as well as those resistant to the usual kinds of interventions. There is also a large population of students from various minority groups whose primary language is other than English. The school psychologist should be able to team with and communicate intervention skills to school-based employees.


 


This position reports to the Director of Special Education. 


 


MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. Have a valid Utah Professional School Psychologist License, a valid Utah Associate School Psychologist License, or a valid out-of-state School Psychologist license that is transferrable to Utah. 

  2. Have an ESL endorsement or obtain one within 4 year of employment.

  3. Master's degree in Psychology or related field.

  4. 3 years' experience working in education with neurodiverse learners.

  5. Professional communication skills including, but not limited to:  excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities; and empathic listening and persuasive speaking skills.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. Training in the following professional skills:  Psychoeducational assessment; interpretation of test scores and report writing; assessment practices with culturally and linguistically diverse students; behavior assessment including functional analysis of behavior;  design of behavior interventions; collaborative team development and consultation;  working knowledge of a range of disabilities described by special education classifications.

  2. Experience working with a population characterized by culturally and linguistically diverse students.  

  3. Demonstrated ability to organize tasks and competing demands.

  4. Effective interpersonal skills.  

  5. PhD in School Psychology or related field.

  6. Previous instructional coaching experience.

  7. Utah Special Education Teacher license. 

  8. 5 years' prior licensed experieince in special education with neurodiverse learners. 

  9. Experience with grade level/content PLC’s/data meetings for analysis of student data to inform instructional practices for highest student achievement. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Be able to review outside agency assessments: standardized and/or supplemental assessments for the purpose of measuring the intellectual, adaptive, academic, social, and emotional development of children and/or determining eligibility for services in compliance with regulatory requirements.

  2. Support the school with assessing students' functional capabilities and home and/or classroom environment for the purpose of determining student's functional level to determine if student qualifies for 504 plan.

  3. Communicates with students and/or parents with teachers and/or other personnel for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts in a multi-media environment.

  4. Compiles information from a variety of sources (e.g. teachers, nurse, probation officer, mental health agencies, other professionals, etc.) for the purpose of producing a comprehensive evaluation report in compliance with established guidelines.

  5. Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services and/or making recommendations.

  6. Coordinates with community agencies including medical, judicial, social service and mental health services for the purpose of determining appropriate treatments, etc. to meet the needs of specific students.

  7. Counsels students, parents and guardians for the purpose of enhancing student success in school.

  8. Develops behavior plans, curriculum modifications, etc. for the purpose of implementing treatment programs.

  9. Facilitates meetings, processes, etc. for the purpose of meeting curriculum guidelines and/or ensuring that state mandates are achieved.

  10. Implements school wide program development and program evaluation (e.g. crisis intervention services, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring effective programs to assist children who experience physical, mental, social or emotional difficulties.

  11. Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.

  12. Leadership


    1. Proven skills in leadership, relationship management, project management, group facilitation, problem solving, team building, coordinating, communication, and student advocacy.

    2. Commitment to engage in continuous learning to deepen professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions in organizational change and leadership, project management, and adult learning to improve professional practice.

    3. Reliability, flexibility, and ability to follow directions as tasks are assigned.

    4. Capacity to be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when communicating to and interacting with our district’s community of stakeholders.

    5. Capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to prioritize appropriately.


  13. Knowledge of ADA and Section 504 law


    1. Knowledge of Section 504 Law including eligibility and determining specific appropriate required accommodations.

    2. Applying knowledge of Section 504 Law to train and support school Liaisons.

    3. Ability to interpret evaluation data including formal and informal assessments.

    4. Knowledge of the role of private evaluations in determining 504 Eligibility and required accommodations.

    5. Capacity to work with families to support understanding of 504 guidelines.

    6. Knowledge of 504 or IEP software.

    7. Is responsible for compliance with all requirements of State Board of Education Rule R277-530 Utah Effective Educator Standards at all levels to teacher development.

    8. Knowledge of MTSS processes to support learning and school/classroom modifications and accommodations


  15. Is responsible for compliance with all requirements of State Board of Education Rule R277-515 Utah Educator Professional Standards.

  16. Maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer’s sole discretion. Required to attend activities, events and meetings outside of normal work hours as needed.

  17. Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

  18. Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. extension requests, correspondence, memos, behavior plans, Medicaid billings, reports, required documentation, Psych Ed Summary, Psych Report, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.

  19. Research resources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students' functional goals.

  20. Supervises interns, practicum students and others for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of school's curriculum.

  21. Maintain professional workplace etiquette and represents the department/district in a professional manner; communicate effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and positive working relationships with co-workers, students, parents, and other district employees.

  22. Demonstrates adaptability and understanding of cultural differences in working in a diverse environment while coping with stressful situations related to students and maintaining confidentiality.

  23. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective operations of the work unit.

  1. Risks found in the typical work environment, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations.

  2. Driving to various work locations.

  3. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work: however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, etc.
