Position:          Mortgage Loan Closer

Department:  Mortgage Loans

Reports to:     Mortgage Closing Manager

FLSA:             Non-Exempt                                                                                      

SUMMARY:

It is the responsibility of the closer to schedule closings and prepare closing documents in accordance with investor and RESPA guidelines. This position requires working closely with the Operations Team, Mortgage Loan Officers, Title Companies, and Realtors.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Daily pipeline management.
  • Audit file to ensure fees are accurately input and meet guidelines established by KFCU, VA, FHA, USDA, FHLMC, and FNMA.
  • Review title to ensure lien perfection prior to closing.
  • Ensure early disclosure is delivered with established timeframes.
  • Produce accurate timely closings within contract and lock expiration dates.
  • Identify tolerance violations and work with funder to provide resolution.
  • Schedule and coordinate all closings with appropriate parties.
  • Prepare Closing documents and provide to settlement agent within 48 hours of closing.
  • Provide extraordinary service to both internal and external members.
  • Attend all closing meetings and complete training as assigned by Manager.
  • Work closely with Post-Closing and Pre-Settlement Audit to minimize exceptions.
  • Complete verbal verifications of employment as required by loan program.
  • Act as a collaborative partner with the Compliance Department and all other departments within KFCU focusing on solving real problems from a regulatory/compliance perspective for internally and externally raised issues.
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently.
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality with all information obtained.
  • Comply with all department and KFCU policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Responsible for compliance with all Federal regulations including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
  • Complete all required Closing Department regulatory training.
  • Maintains knowledge of and adheres to KFCU’s internal compliance policies and
    Other Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Serves as a back-up to the other Mortgage Closing personnel, as
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Education:
    • High School diploma or equivalent required. Some college desirable or a combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the functions of the
    Experience and Other Requirements:
    • 2+ years’ experience as a Mortgage Closer preferred.
    • Must exhibit a basic comprehension or arithmetic competency and possess basic clerical skills, including operating a
    • Must possess the ability to meet established productivity
    • Proven investigative skills.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment & under pressure as needed.
    • Must possess an outgoing personality with a helpful attitude and well developed sales culture attitude toward credit union services and
    • Accuracy and attention to details
    • Ability to utilize resources available to complete assigned projects.
    • Must possess and maintain good interpersonal skills with members and other
    • Must become familiar with all KFCU guidelines, policies and procedures, departments, and their relationship.
    • Must become skilled in Mortgage Loan
    • Must be capable of communicating with insurance agents, attorneys, appraisers, Realtors, and other vendors that supply services for KFCU mortgage loan
    • Must become knowledgeable with all KFCU products and services, in order to cross-sell to members and
    • Must display a willingness and ability to be cross-trained throughout the
    • Must possess an on-going ability to keep abreast of changing policies and
    • Must maintain confidentiality and display
    • Overtime may be required as work and circumstances
    Computer Skills:
    • Extensive use of personal PC
    • Must be proficient in the Lending Operating
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, as well as use of internet and e-mail.
