SUMMARY:
The Pathology Laboratory Assistant, under the direction of the Pathology Manager, supports and enhances overall laboratory productivity by performing patient accommodative services, technical procedures and clerical duties as assigned.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to, specimen pickups, cytology processing, surgical accessioning and assisting with bone marrow and frozen section specimens. Additionally, the Pathology Laboratory Assistant demonstrates knowledge of human tissue types and various technical protocols.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Formal training which will preferably be indicated by a high school diploma or equivalent; previous experience in health care or laboratory setting. One year of relevant pathology and/or cytology specimen processing, preferred.
PHYSICAL GUIDELINES:
Physical guidelines include the ability to move, traverse, position self, remain in a stationary position and negotiate steps for up to eight hours per day; exposure to hazardous materials; manual dexterity and motor coordination; visual and auditory acuity; move, lift and position materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
