Job Description

Description

This position supports the mission and work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization. The Social Worker plays a vital role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for participants and staff. As a licensed clinician, the Social Worker provides behavioral and emotional support, conducts risk assessments in cases of suicidal ideation or self-harm, and collaborates with families and staff to ensure the well-being of all participants. The role includes supporting participants with special needs or behavioral challenges, providing direct intervention when necessary, and guiding staff in trauma-informed and inclusive care strategies.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Model and teach YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility with members, staff, volunteers, and participants
  • Evaluate and respond to mental health concerns, including safety assessments for campers expressing suicidal ideation or self-harm
  • Support camp staff in managing behavioral challenges and promoting inclusive environments
  • Facilitate positive social interactions and emotional development among campers
  • Develop and oversee behavior and support plans for campers requiring additional assistance
  • Train and coach staff in trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and inclusive programming
  • Collaborate with parents/guardians and healthcare providers to support camper well-being
  • Document behavioral and mental health interventions according to YMCA standards and regulations
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development trainings to stay current on best practices
 
 

 

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related clinical field required
  • Current licensure (LMSW, LCSW, LPC, or equivalent) required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience providing direct mental health or behavioral support to children or adolescents
  • Experience in school, camp, or residential settings strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), trauma-informed practices, and youth crisis intervention
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to engage with diverse groups, including families and camp staff
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR required or must be obtained upon hire
