Summary
The Quality Receiving Technician is responsible for the receipt, inspection, and release of ingredients, commodities, and packaging materials that meet all specification and regulatory requirements. This role ensures timely execution of quality and food safety checks for inbound materials, including document review, sample evaluation, and laboratory analysis. The technician also maintains real-time communication with the Quality team and cross-functional partners to support efficient operations.
Functions Of The Position:
- Pulls samples of inbound ingredients, commodities, and packaging materials. Verifies that all materials originate from approved suppliers and meet facility and regulatory requirements.
- Reviews product COAs, confirms compliance with specifications and approved supplier status, and completes PCQI signoff in the COA system and applicable databases.
- Performs timely analysis of processing goods, including visual, organoleptic, weight, size, mix, moisture, water activity, and salt testing. Conducts finished and in-process product evaluations, free fatty acid analysis, and SOAP testing on processing oil. Verifies processing line accuracy, including product type, labels, date codes, and roaster temperature readings. Tests metal detectors for compliance and performs pre-operational inspections on production lines.
- Completes integrity inspections of warehoused ingredients.
- Places holds on out-of-specification products and communicates hold status to appropriate personnel for disposition.
- Performs additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Experience, and Knowledge
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Two years of food quality experience preferred.
Certificates and Licenses
Forklift license preferred.
PCQI certification required.
Skills and Competencies
Ability to consume any snack product or nut variety for evaluation purposes.
Strong attention to detail and ability to complete real-time documentation.
Basic math skills.
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds and stand for up to four hours at a time.
Ability to meet deadlines and regulatory time requirements.
Proficiency with analytical tools including calculators, analytical scales, salt/moisture/oxygen analyzers, water activity meters, and color meters.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to work in varying ambient conditions.
