Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Valencia Campus is seeking an
Education Specialist
. The Education Specialist will have direct oversight of the
Pasos Resource Center to include the STEM Tutoring and all college-level UNM
Valencia Campus peer tutors including hiring, training, scheduling, performance
evaluations, tutoring data collection, analysis, and reporting. The Education
Specialist will become proficient via tracking system, student retention,
scheduling, and reporting system. In collaboration with the Writing Center
Director, this position creates and provides relevant training for student tutors, front desk
receptionists, and peer mentors that is accessible, practical,
relationship-centered, equity focused, data-informed, sustainable, with an
emphasis on instructional design; providing training to faculty on how to
evaluate tutoring needs and best serve the student population. The Education
Specialist will collaborate with the Director of the Writing Center in training
STEM and Writing tutors.

This individual must possess strong interpersonal
skills to manage and facilitate program activities including monitoring of the
program budget. This individual will interact collaboratively with faculty to
recruit qualified peer tutors and in providing individual, group, and embedded tutoring
services specific to the academic needs of the UNM Valencia Campus. Duties will
include the development of curricula, relevant presentations and materials
workshops, and other academic and tutoring training services including a focus
on assisting students with learning challenges.

Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural
Valencia county, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year
branch campus of the University of New Mexico which functions as a community
college in the region and is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution. 
With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers academic
transfer programs, technical vocational programs, Adult Basic Education, and
Dual Credit High School/College courses to Valencia and Socorro Counties. 
The faculty and staff serve a student body of approximately 2,000 credit students per
semester.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • More than three years experience with direct supervision of peer tutors and the coordination and support of peer tutoring services 
  • More than three years experience in the development of relevant relationship-centered training for student tutors and peer mentors that is accessible and sustainable, with an emphasis on instructional design
  • STEM background
  • Demonstrated relationship base collaboration with faculty, staff, and students
  • More than three years demonstrated relationship based collaboration with faculty, staff, and students
