Job Description

This position will be responsible for performing duties in the sample receiving, logistics and administration areas of the Client Services Department.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Co-ordination of all sublet lab paperwork and reporting;
  • Co-ordinate and resolve any TAT, test code and any sample issues with the appropriate labs;
  • Regularly maintain the sample reception and office areas as needed;
  • Receive, open and layout samples and paperwork for work orders as they arrive in the laboratory;
  • Ensure that sample labels are accurate, checked and that Chain of Custody forms and client communications are scanned into the LIMS system;
  • Review chain of custody/analytical request form received in login;
  • Determine when client sample processing instructions are missing, incomplete or ambiguous;
  • Log-in of drinking water samples and cash client samples in liaison with the Account Manager in charge;
  • Accurately process cash account payments in accordance with internal accounting practices;
  • Accurate Data entry of client information into internal Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS);
  • Daily interaction with ALS clients (on phone and in person on-site);
  • Familiarity with all ALS location turnaround times (TATs);
  • Preparation and organization of bottle orders to client supplied specifications, including sample cooler control, storage and maintenance;
  • Maintenance and organization of the sample prep room, bottle stocks and preservation of sample bottles;
  • Shipping and receiving (samples/supplies) at the reception area;
  • Assist with the proper packing and daily shipping of samples to clients and ALS network labs;
  • Assist Account Managers with report organizing, mailing and filing;
  • Phone duty back-up;
  • General lab office duties including sample disposal as required;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have good organizational skills and be able to handle a fluctuating work load and prioritize work with great attention to detail;
  • Excellent customer services skills, verbal skills including telephone answering;
  • Good computer skills, including email, Microsoft suite;
  • Must be capable of working with minimal supervision;
  • Must be well organized and able to work independently, as well as part of a team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma;
  • Science background an asset;

Physical Demands:

  • This position requires a person to sit/stand up to 8 hours per day;
  • This position requires the ability to lift up to 50lbs and carry for short distances.

  • An estimated hourly pay of $20.52 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
