DESCRIPTION
Dylan’s Candy Bar is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Café & Ooey Gooey Lead to support and execute the daily operations of the Café & Ooey Gooey department. In this role, you’ll be responsible for delivering exceptional customer experiences while upholding brand standards, health and safety regulations, and operational excellence. You’ll play a key role in leading the café team, ensuring product quality, and driving sales success.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Quality & Customer Experience:
• Ensure all Café & Ooey Gooey products meet Dylan’s Candy Bar’s standards for portion size, cooking methods, presentation, and taste.
• Work with the Retail Merchandising Manager to maintain brand integrity through mouthwatering visual displays that align with both visual merchandising and health code standards.
• Work with the Retail Operations and Inventory Manager to maintain accurate levels of goods and monitor ordering of supplies and product.
• Engage with customers, provide product recommendations, and effectively communicate any potential allergen triggers.
• Support individual, team, and café sales goals that contribute to overall store success.
Operational Excellence:
• Oversee daily café operations, ensuring seamless execution of opening and closing procedures according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Maintain café cleanliness in line with sanitation guidelines and Department of Health regulations.
• Monitor café inventory and supplies, participating in physical inventory counts and working with the Café & Ooey Gooey Operations Manager to maintain optimal stock levels.
• Ensure accurate supply ordering, avoiding overstocking and adhering to standard menu offerings.
• Proactively oversee café equipment upkeep and partner with the Café & Ooey Gooey Operations Manager to address maintenance needs promptly.
• Support daily operational functions, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling and compliance with company policies.
• Assist in loss prevention efforts by monitoring security procedures and enforcing operational policies.
Leadership & Team Development:
• Lead by example, training and coaching café associates to maintain high performance, customer service, and adherence to brand standards.
• Provide qualitative feedback and on-the-spot coaching to improve team performance and ensure smooth daily operations.
• Ensure staff are appropriately zoned, the sales floor runs efficiently, and the store remains clean, stocked and customer-ready.
• Reinforce the Mystery Shopper Survey priorities in all training initiatives to uphold the highest standards of customer experience.
Sales & Event Support:
• Manage café services during in-store and off-site events, including PR opportunities and special activations.
• Gather and share customer feedback with the General Manager and Operations Consultant, identifying top-selling items, customer preferences, and sales trends for future planning.
• Stay up to date on candy product knowledge, including dietary restrictions and allergen information, to enhance the customer experience.
Administrative Duties:
• Follow all cash handling procedures, perform register audits, and maintain accurate records.
• Ensure team adherence to the dress code policy, including proper food handling attire such as hats, gloves, and hairnets.
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of all café processes, policies, and SOPs.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
• 2-3 years of prior relevant (retail/food service/hospitality) work experience
• Previous restaurant/café/food service experience preferred
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Serve-safe or Food Handler’s certification is required
• Experience in store opening and closing procedures including cash handling.
• Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures
• Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to lift up-to 30lbs with or without reasonable accommodations
• Ability to plan, prioritize, and proactively react to the needs of the business with a sense of urgency in a high paced environment
• Demonstrates strong listening, written and oral communication skills
