Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach - Limited Term

Hourly Rate Range: $30.82 - $38.68 per hour

Job Summary: The
Assistant S&C supports the Head S&C coach by designing and implementing
evidence-based training programs to enhance athletic performance and prevent
injuries. Key duties include leading training sessions, instructing proper
lifting techniques, monitoring athlete progress, and collaborating with medical
staff for return-to-play protocols.

Responsibilities/accountabilities: 

Program
Implementation

  • Executing sport-specific strength, speed, power and conditioning programs for
  • Basketball, Hockey, Soccer and Volleyball. 
  • Assist in day-to-day coordination with team training sessions
  • Assist in executing sport-specific strength, speed, power and conditioning programs  
  • Execute warm up and cool down activities with teams

Coaching & Athlete
Development

  • Assist with planning and delivery of sport specific team & open gym training sessions
  • Teach proper techniques for lifting, plyometrics, and mobility exercises in both group and individual settings
  • Assisting in student in-service lessons
  • Promote a culture of accountability, resilience, discipline, respect and competitive excellence
  • Support annual program objectives which will motivate athletes to strive for their best potential performances
  • Reinforces positive high-performance culture for
    student-athletes to the policies and regulations of the University,
    Varsity Athletics, OUA and USPORTS
  • Provide student athletes with guidance on nutrition, recovery and lifestyle habits to enhance performance
  • Assist in providing support and guidance to intern student S & C trainers about training varsity athletes

Data Collection

  • Record, and report on athlete performance data
  •  E.g. Jump tests and fitness testing

Collaboration  

  • Work with sport coaches and athletic therapy staff to align training with team goals, injury prevention, and rehab
  • Schedule and organize all fitness testing dates, and team training
    schedules  

Facility
Management

  • Maintain cleanliness,
    safety, and organization of the S&C spaces and equipment

Required Skills: 

  • Leadership skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.  Computer skills are an asset.
  • E.g. Excel, Google Sheets
  • Proficient with athlete monitoring
  • E.g. Force plates

Required Qualifications: 

  • CSCS Certification preferred
  • CSEP-CPT minimum
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours during the competitive season
  • Commitment to equity,
    diversity, inclusion, and student-athlete development

Required Education: 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field
  • Training and/or experience
    may be substituted for formal academic training at the discretion of the
    University
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered for this role

* Verification of Academic credentials may be required

Required Experience: 

  • Previous experience coaching in an academy, collegiate, or professional setting
  • Strength & Conditioning coaching experience
  • Knowledge of academic system at the University level
  • Knowledge of OUA/USPORT
    associations
