Description
The Assembly Technician plays a critical role in the production of high-quality marine components by preparing, assembling, and finishing metal parts through the powder-coating process. This position ensures all products meet marine-grade durability, corrosion resistance, and cosmetic standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with finishing systems.
Key Responsibilities
Assembly & Fabrication
- Assemble marine components and sub-assemblies according to engineering drawings, work orders, and quality specifications.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and specialty equipment required for assembly.
- Inspect incoming and fabricated parts for defects, proper dimensions, and quality before coating.
Powder Coating Preparation
- Prepare metal surfaces for powder coating by cleaning, degreasing, sanding, masking, and media blasting as needed.
- Set up parts on racks or fixtures to ensure proper coverage and curing.
- Apply correct labeling to maintain part identification through the finishing process.
Powder Coating Application
- Assist with or perform powder-coating operations, including spray application, booth operation, and equipment setup under supervision of lead or supervisor.
- Monitor film thickness, coverage quality, and consistency.
- Load/unload curing ovens, following curing times and temperature requirements.
Quality Control
- Conduct visual inspections for coating defects such as runs, pinholes, orange peel, and improper adhesion.
- Verify color accuracy, finish uniformity, and surface smoothness per marine-grade standards.
- Document quality checks and report any non-conformance issues.
Safety & Equipment Maintenance
- Follow all safety protocols for handling chemicals, powder materials, equipment, and PPE.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area compliant with OSHA and company standards.
- Perform routine maintenance on tools, spray equipment, and ovens as instructed.
Requirements
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ year experience in manufacturing, assembly, metal finishing, or similar environment.
- Basic mechanical skills and ability to read measurements and blueprints.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
Preferred
- Experience in powder coating or industrial finishing.
- Knowledge of marine-grade metals (aluminum, stainless steel).
- Forklift certification or willingness to train.
