Job Description

Chapman Tripp is looking for a motivated and curious Legal Engineer to join our legal technology and AI team in Auckland. This is an exciting opportunity for someone in the early stages of their legal career with a strong interest in legal technology, innovation, and improving how legal work gets done.


About the role:

In this role, you will support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of legal technology tools, workflows, and systems used by our lawyers and business services teams.

You will work closely with legal practitioners, knowledge teams, AI specialists, and technology professionals to help identify pain points, improve processes, support new tools, and assist with training and adoption.


Key responsibilities:

  • Support the design, testing, implementation, and improvement of legal technology tools and solutions
  • Assist with improving legal processes, workflows, and document-based tasks through technology and automation
  • Work with lawyers and business services teams to identify opportunities for more efficient ways of working
  • Help configure and maintain legal technology platforms, templates, workflows, and internal tools
  • Assist with user testing, troubleshooting, feedback gathering, and quality assurance
  • Prepare user guides, training materials, and process documentation
  • Support training, pilot programmes, and roll-outs of new tools and systems
  • Collaborate with teams across legal, IT, knowledge, risk, and operations


You will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in law or a related discipline
  • Previous experience in a law firm, legal team, professional services environment, or a role in legal tech/innovation or operations
  • A strong interest in legal technology, innovation, and process improvement
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and a practical, methodical approach
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to learn


Desirable experience includes exposure to document automation, workflow tools, AI-enabled legal tools, process mapping, testing, or user documentation.
