Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Finish Grade Dirt Foreman who can both lead a crew and operate heavy equipment to perform precise finish grading on construction projects. This role requires hands-on operation of equipment, field leadership, and coordination with project managers to ensure grading work meets exact specifications, safety standards, and deadlines. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate  heavy equipment (such as motor graders, bulldozers, skid steers, and excavators) to achieve final grade elevations, slopes, and contours per project plans. 
  • Supervise and lead finish grade crews to perform precise grading for roads, pads, and other site development.
  • Read and interpret site plans, blueprints, and grade stakes to ensure accuracy in grading operations.
  • Operate  and supervise the operation of heavy equipment such as dozers, graders,  skid steers, and GPS-enabled machinery.
  • Ensure correct elevations, slopes, and grades are achieved per project  specifications.
  • Coordinate  daily job activities and assign tasks to crew members effectively.
  • Monitor productivity and quality of work to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Inspect  and maintain safety standards and ensure all crew members follow company and OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Communicate  effectively with project managers, inspectors, and other trades on-site.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve grading issues as they arise during the project.
  • Keep accurate records of labor, materials, and equipment usage for reporting and payroll purposes.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or project manager, depending on project needs.


Work Environment:

  • Outdoor Work: The position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions (hot, humid, rainy, etc.).
  • Noise & Dust Exposure: The work environment involves exposure to high noise levels, grease, dust, and other substances commonly found on  construction sites.
  • Heavy Equipment: Regular exposure to heavy machinery and moving equipment on-site.
  • Hazardous  Conditions: Occasional exposure to common construction substances such as gasoline, diesel fuel, and form oil.

Requirements

 Qualifications:

  • Minimum  5 years of experience in earthwork/grading construction, with at least 3 years in a leadership or foreman role.
  • Strong understanding of finish grade requirements, site prep, and compaction techniques.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting plans, specs, and grade stakes.
  • Experience with GPS machine control systems (e.g., Trimble, Topcon) is highly      preferred.
  • Skilled in operating a variety of heavy equipment for grading and dirt work.
  • Knowledge of soil types, moisture conditioning, and compaction methods.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments and adapt to changing priorities.
