Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School is seeking a dynamic, professional, and mission-driven individual to serve as the Head Varsity Wrestling Coach. This is an opportunity to lead one of the premier programs in the state while continuing a proud tradition of excellence both on and off the mat.

Position Overview

The Head Varsity Wrestling Coach is responsible for leading and developing a highly competitive, faith-centered program that emphasizes excellence in athletics, academics, and character. The ideal candidate is, first and foremost, a strong leader for our young men—someone who establishes high standards, demands accountability, and consistently inspires student-athletes to reach their full potential.

This individual must be capable of making sound decisions both on and off the mat while fostering a disciplined, team-first culture. Grand Rapids Catholic Central’s wrestling program has produced numerous state champions and All-State wrestlers over the past 15 years, and we are seeking a coach who can both sustain and elevate that level of success.

This position is for someone who can build and maintain a strong program while developing individual talent. The coach will foster spiritual growth, promote academic achievement, and guide student-athletes in becoming disciplined, responsible, and faith-filled young men.

Key Responsibilities

-Provide leadership, vision, and direction for the entire wrestling program (varsity and sub-varsity levels)
-Develop and implement a comprehensive training program focused on technique, conditioning, and competitive success
-Establish and maintain a positive, disciplined, and championship-level team culture
-Serve as a role model of integrity, toughness, sportsmanship, and professionalism
-Support and promote the mission and Catholic identity of Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School
-Foster spiritual development and incorporate faith-based values into the program
-Promote academic success and monitor student-athlete academic progress
-Organize and conduct effective practices, competitions, and off-season training programs
-Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches
-Develop long-term program growth, including youth and feeder program alignment
-Build and sustain a structured offseason program, including strength and conditioning, open mats, skill development, and summer training opportunities
-Encourage and guide participation in club wrestling while maintaining alignment with school program standards and values
-Coordinate and implement a comprehensive weight training program in collaboration with strength and conditioning staff
-Plan and lead summer camps, team camps, and individual development opportunities
-Establish, grow, and support a middle school wrestling program to ensure long-term program success
-Develop and engage youth wrestling initiatives, including camps, clinics, and community outreach
-Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, administration, and staff
-Ensure compliance with school, conference, and MHSAA rules and regulations
-Manage team operations including scheduling, travel, equipment, uniforms, and budgeting
-Promote the program within the school, alumni base, and broader community
-Encourage multi-sport participation and collaborate with other athletic programs
-Maintain accurate records, match results, statistics, and program history
-Provide a safe, structured, and inclusive environment for all student-athletes

Qualifications

-Previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred
-Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop student-athletes
-Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques, match strategy, and program development
-Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
-Commitment to the values and mission of Catholic education
-Proven ability to build, sustain, and elevate a competitive program
-CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
-Must meet all MHSAA and school coaching requirements
