The Medical Provider is part of the Health Services Department and works with other team members to provide a complete health services program, particularly to a heavy athletics/sports population. This position reports to and is supervised by the Director of Health Services.
This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
● Assists with monitoring the health and wellness of the Darrow community and participates in the creation of health and wellness plans and procedures, as requested by the Director.
● Reviews and authorizes the School’s Health Services Standing Orders, annually and as requested by the Director of Health Services. Supervises Athletic Trainers as per NYS Law.
● Diagnose and treat musculoskeletal injuries and sports-related conditions, especially concussions.
● Develop personalized treatment plans for student athletes, to include rehabilitation.
● Collaborate with a multidisciplinary health services team, including nurses, athletic trainers, and physical therapists.
● Educate patients on injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement.
● Works with the Director of Health Services to ensure that Health Services Staff are trained in all health, wellness, and safety procedures and protocols
● Serve as the Primary Healthcare Provider for all International Students
● Enters all student or staff contacts into the school's electronic medical records database, consistent with NYS healthcare provider requirements (standards of care) and health services policy.
● Agrees to follow New York State Law, which provides the legal definitions of and scopes of practice for Medicine.
● Work Schedule is ordinarily 5 hours per week (on school days), at the health center, with additional hours and/or days to meet the needs of the Darrow Community. The exact schedule will be in collaboration with the Director of Health Services and is meant to support sick call hours, annual physicals, concussion evaluations, primary care visits, and sports injuries.
● Agrees to be on-call, for consultation by Health Services Staff, on all days when school is in session/students are on-campus. This requires providing telephone/tele-health consultation, as needed.
● The Medical Provider is bound by New York State Laws and School Health Services policies regarding student confidentiality
Required Skills/Qualifications
● Valid New York State License required (with Prescription Authorization) as a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.
● Sports Medicine or Orthopedic Specialty Certification is preferred, but not required.
● Pediatric/adolescent experience is preferred
● Current BLS Certification required
● Valid Driver’s license
● Mandatory Reporter/Child Abuse Training required
● Knowledge of current principles and practices of the typical work and standards of care associated with their licensed profession
● Knowledge of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogen standards and operational procedures
● Ability to relate to boys and girls ages 13 - 20
● Computer skills and the ability to use electronic health records are required
● Ability to function as an interdisciplinary team member
● Ability to exercise excellent judgment and maintain confidentiality while also communicating/sharing information (i.e., safety concerns, suicidal ideations, medication compliance, changes to medications, etc.) with other health services staff members.

Pay
Part-time, starting at $150/hr, negotiable based upon experience and board certifications. Approximately 5 - 10 hours per week. No benefits.
