    SUMMARY
    Assist in the overall operation of the School's Media Center/ Global Learning Center. Help organize and maintain the routine operation of the school's media center (GLC); receives, processes, circulates, and shelves print and non-print materials using the Follett circulation system. Assists students and teachers in locating and selecting appropriate learning materials. Maintain the GLC in a clean and orderly condition. Assists in maintaining the discipline of students and monitoring student use of electronic media. Creating dynamic and engaging themes/ bulletin boards/displays to promote learning and reading.  Perform other duties as assigned by the media specialist, principal or his/her designee.
     
    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
    The Paraprofessional � Media/Library reports to the Building Principal and may receive requests from the teaching staff.
     
    Assists in the coordination and supervision of student activities as requested.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    1. Must have regular, reliable and punctual attendance
    2. Mattendaintain an orderly and well-organized media center that is conducive to the purposes and objectives of the media center program.
    3. Responsible for the care and maintenance of the resources including book mending, equipment troubleshooting and repair.
    4. Responsible for photo ID processing and laminating requests.
    5. Assist students and staff with resources including use, selection, installation, maintenance, and repair.
    6. Maintain accurate records including online card catalog, shelf list, computerized systems, and circulation.
    7. Inventory media center on a regular basis, including equipment, hardware, software, preparation of new books for shelving, updating or destroying outdated information and resources.
    8. Monitor use of resources, including Internet activity.
    9. Prepare attractive bulletin boards.
    10. Attend open houses and other school-related functions as required.
    11. Perform basic clerical duties including photocopying, preparation of notices, bulletins and other related materials and maintaining accurate files.
    12. Compute, collect, and record payment for damaged or lost materials.
    13. Participate in the needs analysis, selection process and placement of orders for resources.
    14. Assist staff with scheduling of students as it applies to the Global Learning Center use.
    15. Assists with the supervision of students; alerts the teacher to any problems or special information about individual students.
    16. Perform other related duties as assigned.

     
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Supervises students under teaching staff direction.
     
    Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
     
    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
    2. Previous experience working with school aged children.
    3. Knowledge of library/media center functions and the use of technology.
    4. Previous experience performing basic clerical skills including recordkeeping, data entry, filing, computer technology.
    5. A technology skills assessment will be conducted.

     
    LANGUAGE SKILLS
    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, staff and parents.
     
    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  Ability to apply concepts of the Dewey Decimal System in order to maintain proper order of collection.
     
    REASONING ABILITY
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving few concrete variables in standardized situations.
     
    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    Ability to operate personal computer.  Ability to work with children.  Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.  Ability  to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
     
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk.  The employee must frequently push or pull up to 25 pounds such as books and/or printer and processing supplies.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
