Job Summary
Provides quality instruction in various biology classes. Performs curriculum development, educational assessments, and course alignments; maintains classrooms and labs in compliance with safety requirements and reports any lab equipment or infrastructure maintenance needs. Demonstrates commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching practices and service activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Instructs students in a classroom, lab, online, learning center, or other setting as appropriate.
- Creates a learning environment for students inclusive of diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds.
- Convenes classes, labs, and examinations on time and as scheduled.
- Provides opportunities for course-related student interactions before or after class, virtually, in person, or through office hours where facilities and schedules permit.
- Adheres to all College polices, practices, and timelines related to evaluation and grading.
- Structures classes and curriculum to correspond with the overall program objectives; prepares clear objectives for students each course. Maintains and revises curriculum to maintain currency.
- Prepares, distributes and utilizes instructional support materials as appropriate;
- Incorporates the latest classroom technology, when available and appropriate, into instructional activities.
- Participates in, and collects data for, educational assessment as directed by the department, division, and College.
- Ensures and emphasizes safe working and classroom conditions and practices. Provides for the safety of student and staff and the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate. Reports any lab equipment or infrastructure maintenance needs.
- Understands and abides by College policies and regulations and other policies, procedures and materials as required by the College, departments, or divisions
- Utilizes technology as required and appropriate.
Additional Duties
- May participate in professional development activities and attend in-service sessions and division meetings.
- May direct aides and work-study students as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Position Duties
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree (or higher) in biology OR a master's degree and 24 graduate credits in biology or related field
Preferred Qualifications
- College level teaching experience, preferably at a community college
- Experience utilizing high engagement instructional practices and incorporating cultural literacy into instruction
- Experience utilizing open education resource (OER) materials.

Work is typically performed in a normal office environment and classroom setting.
SalarySalary placement will be based on applicable education and/or years of relevant equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
