Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a Lead Teacher for our Extended School Year (ESY) program at Bertha Neal Elementary. This temporary position is designed to support students with diverse learning needs during the summer months, fostering an engaging and inclusive learning environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to student success, creativity in lesson planning, and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, families, and the community.

Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans that align with students' IEP goals and objectives.
- Create a positive and structured classroom environment that promotes student engagement and learning.
- Assess students' progress regularly and adjust instructional strategies as needed to meet individual needs.
- Collaborate with special education staff, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to ensure comprehensive support for each student.
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress, classroom activities, and ways to support learning at home.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance and documentation required for compliance with special education regulations.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and stay current with educational best practices.
- Foster a culture of respect, inclusivity, and empathy within the classroom and the broader school community.
- Organize and lead extracurricular activities that promote social skills and teamwork among students.

Requirements
- Previous experience working with students with disabilities, particularly in a summer or extended school year setting.
- Strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and special education laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and employ a variety of teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to obtain prior to start date.

Lead Teacher for Extended School Year - Early Childhood Special Education Program
Hours/Days: Starts June 8, 2026 (Extended School Year, 3 weeks)
Classes meet four times per week, Monday through Thursday, 9:00-11:30 with teacher hours
8:45-11:45
Terms of Employment: June 8, 2026 - June 25, 2026
Report To: Principal/SE Supervisor
Position Summary: To address IEP goals by providing developmental activities within the
classroom setting and collaborate with ancillary services.
Compensation: Per DEA Contract

Qualifications:
• Valid Michigan Elementary Teacher Certificate or Early Childhood Degree Preferred
• Meet NCLB standards for the position
• Preschool Experience Preferred
• Show evidence of good health
• Self-directed individual
• Ability and willingness to work with professional teaching staff
• Strong verbal/language and mathematics skills
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds of weight
Starting Date: June 8, 2026
Responsibilities:
• Plan and lead activities and lessons as it relates to student IEPs
• Toileting support for students as needed
• Collaborate with ancillary staff and paraprofessional staff within the program
• Daily communication with families
