Primary Purpose:
Assist the band director in directing and managing the overall program of instrumental music for the school. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensure compliance with all state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and district requirements. Plan activities to achieve district, region, and state recognition.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Valid teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of operation of instrumental music program
Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing band
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to interpret data
Strong communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Three (3) years teaching and band directing experience preferred but not required
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Program Planning
2. Assist in establishing performance requirements, enforce academic requirements and verify each student's eligibility to participate in band.
3. Assist in providing for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, UIL, and TMEA activities.
4. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education Rules, UIL rules, and board policy in the band area.
5. Support band booster club activities.
6. Assist in providing student achievement data to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
7. Recommend policies to improve the program.
Budget and Inventory
8. Assist with coordination of fundraising activities and manage funds.
9. Assist in maintaining a current inventory of all fixed assets within the department.
10. Assist in overseeing the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all band equipment.
Instruction
11. Assist in implementing plans for instrumental music programs and show written evidence of preparation as required.
12. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
13. Assist in presenting subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
14. Assist with the planning and use of appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
15. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
16. Create and environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Student Management
17. Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
18. Accompany and supervise students on out-of-town trips.
19. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Communication
20. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
21. Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
Other
22. Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
23. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
24. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.
25. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
26. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
27. Must be present regularly in person.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district and occasional statewide travel; Prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor and indoor work; exposure to sun, heat, cold and inclement weather.
