About Empowered Services

Empowered Services provides 1:1 in-home and community-based support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) deliver person-centered care, ADL support, and community engagement to help individuals build independence and live meaningful lives.


Position Overview

We are hiring an entry-level Part-Time Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Caregiver to support a teen in the Salem, OR area during weekday afternoons.


This role is ideal for candidates with experience in:

  • Behavioral support / emotional regulation
  • Mental health or trauma-informed care
  • Childcare / youth mentorship
  • Caregiving, DSP, or CNA roles



Schedule

  • Monday – Friday: 2:00 PM – 4:00/5:00 PM
    (Consistent weekday afternoon schedule)


About the Individual

You will be supporting an adolescent who: 

  • Enjoys board games, crafts, jewelry, fashion, slime, and music
  • Loves spending time with her service dog (Amber)
  • Has a fun, silly personality and values being treated like a typical teen
  • Benefits from structure, routine, and clear expectations
  • Needs time to process tasks, changes, and transitions
  • Can experience strong emotions, including withdrawal or frustration
  • May take things personally and benefits from gentle perspective support
  • Prefers a companion-style relationship (not authoritative/parenting approach)


What You’ll Do

  • Provide 1:1 support and companionship
  • Assist with ADLs and daily routines as needed
  • Support community outings (Ulta, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc.)
  • Engage in creative activities (crafts, jewelry, crochet, games, music)
  • Help with task sequencing and step-by-step processing
  • Support emotional regulation and problem-solving
  • Use timers and structured routines for transitions
  • Encourage independence and participation in daily tasks (when appropriate)
  • Maintain clear, consistent communication and expectations
  • Complete documentation and communication with care team


Compensation & Benefits

  • $23–$25 per hour (DOE: experience, education, certifications)
  • Paid training
  • Flexible schedule based upon the customer

Qualifications: 

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Current auto insurance (meeting state requirements)
  • Ability to pass a background check (not all records are disqualifying)
  • Experience with behavioral support, youth care, or mental health

Preferred:

  • Experience as a DSP, caregiver, behavioral technician, CNA, or childcare provider
  • Experience supporting individuals with I/DD, autism, or mental health needs
  • Experience with de-escalation and emotional regulation support
  • CPR / First Aid certification
