PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE JOB
As a Flavourist II, you will lead the creation and development of flavours that delight consumers across Beverage, Sweet, and Dairy categories in Oceania, bringing sensory excellence to life through science and artistry. In this critical sole contributor role, you will combine deep technical expertise with creative flair to shape taste experiences that strengthen our customers’ brands and drive business growth.


Collaborating seamlessly with commercial and technical partners, you will co-create winning taste solutions that anticipate consumer needs and set new standards in market performance. Your insight and innovation will fuel regional initiatives— imperative to achieving our Sales and New Win Revenue ambitions.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
• Prepare flavour samples as requested for customer briefs, applications needs, technology performance assessment, QC standards, physical testing, etc.
• Formulate new flavour creations or modify existing flavours to meet customer requirements, internal testing needs, or new technology development for multiple flavour types
• Participate in the evaluation of materials developed internally or from external sources and assess potential for flavour creation
• Participate and learn about all areas of the company directly related to executing customer briefs (analytical chemistry, sensory, consumer understanding, regulatory, flavour delivery, manufacturing, etc.)
• As a core member of the Oceania Commercial Management Team, act as the segment technical contact in senior strategic forums and represent the segment technical function for key projects
• Lead and develop the technical teams through ongoing coaching and training to achieve optimal performance.
Plan training and overseas sabbaticals for staff. Increase connectivity to the other regional innovation centers.
• Serve as technical expert and advisor to marketing, sales, and customers for ingredient and flavour performance for multiple flavour types
• Guide and support the formulation and development of innovative new products to meet market and customer requirements in the Oceania sub region.
• Execute daily brief-related tasks and fully manage assigned projects and provide flavours which meet all defined customer needs, and which meet good manufacturing practices, sample scale-up, production requirements, regulatory compliance, etc. as well as leading customer visits for flavor creation and product presentations at the customer when required.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with multiple customers; able to gain their trust and respect
• Liaise with Givaudan colleagues in the Asia Pacific region and overseas, including the regional Innovation team and S+T. Collaborate closely with local and Regional Marketing on proactive new product concepts.
• Drive innovation and technology and provide senior level technical support to major customers when needed. Develop strong relationships at key customers to support sales activities.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organized lab environment in accordance with EH&S policies and hold others accountable for following these guidelines

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education & Knowledge: 
- Polytechnic or Bachelors Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology and any experience in a food applications lab, production or related area
- Knowledge of general food & nutra applications and business
- Commercial acumen, preferably in B2B and/or B2C
- Computer skills and familiar with all major software used

Experience:
- 3-6 years experience as a Flavourist AFTER completion of Givaudan Flavourist Training programme or accepted industry equivalent
- Broad technical food Application skills
- Comfortable working in a large matrix business

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
• Demonstrates expert level tasting skills with an intermediate level ability to understand how to adjust a flavour formulation in the direction needed for flavour modifications
• Intermediate level knowledge of raw materials and flavour ingredients with an expert level ability to formulate selected flavour types to deliver flavour performance for customer briefs, problem solving processes, research and development needs, etc.
• Intermediate level understanding of common Givaudan flavour creation solvent and carrier systems
• Intermediate level ability to interface with customers and effectively discuss the flavour creation needs for selected flavour types and provide direction to help solve flavour performance issues in their applications
• Intermediate level knowledge of local and regional regulatory requirements for flavours
• Ability to prepare and present complex flavour creation related technical presentations
• Intermediate level knowledge of application equipment, ingredients, and manufacturing procedures
• Intermediate level knowledge of formulating suitable delivery systems for various application bases
• Intermediate level knowledge of analytical methodologies (G.C. HPLC, Mass Spec.)
• Expert level knowledge of flavour manufacturing equipment and processes
• Intermediate level knowledge of flavour performance and be able to formulate using this data to improve flavour performance
• Ability to supervise flavour assistants
