Job Description

About the Department

Temporary - Summer 2026 - not to exceed 4 months.

This position is seasonal, typically summer, performs beginning level sub-professional engineering work in the office or in the field and numerous other duties under the direct authority of County Engineer and Secondary Roads Foreman.

Work Headquarters:  Woodbury County Engineer's Office, 759 Frontage Road, Moville, IA 51039

Position Duties

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

The following duties are typical for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  

Other duties may be required and assigned. 

  • Positions available at various Woodbury County Secondary Roads Maintenance sheds: Moville, Correctionville, Oto and Hornick, Iowa
  • Position typically during summer
  • Performs beginning level sub-professional engineering work in the office or in the field and numerous other duties under the direct authority of County Engineer and Secondary Roads Foreman.
  • Must be able to furnish and wear safety shoes while performing job duties.
  • Attendance is required
     
    Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Provides assistance with a variety of duties within the scope of responsibility assigned by County Engineer
    Secondary Roads Foreman

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Required to Perform Essential Functions: 

  • Knowledge of elementary mathematics and some college course work preferred; skill in the use of hand tools; completion of a standard high school course; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Minimum 18 years of age, previous experience desired
  • Possession of a current valid driver's license and insurance with good driving record
  • Ability to routinely lift 40 pounds
  • Must be able to furnish and wear safety shoes while performing job duties.
  • Perform physical labor in all types of weather conditions and be exposed to dust, fumes and loud noises.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to communicate successfully with the public in clearly spoken English
  • Candidate for hire must successfully pass a background check, a physical examination, vision, back screen and drug screen prior to employment
