Description

The Service Truck Operator supports asphalt paving operations by operating and maintaining a service truck used to deliver materials, tools, and support equipment to field crews. This role ensures equipment readiness, performs routine maintenance, handles hazardous materials safely, and assists paving crews when not driving. The operator plays a key role in keeping paving operations efficient, safe, and productive.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities 

  • Operates and maintains the service truck to support asphalt paving operations by safely transporting materials, tools, and equipment to job sites.
  • Performs daily equipment inspections, identifies and reports mechanical issues, and carries out routine preventive maintenance while monitoring fluid systems each day and servicing or emptying them as needed to ensure proper and reliable operation.
  • Ensures the truck is fueled and fully stocked and keeps all systems in proper working order to minimize downtime and keep paving crews supplied and productive.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and audit-ready service truck at all times.
  • Monitor material levels, spray patterns, and application rates to maintain consistent quality
  • Follows proper labeling, containment, spill-prevention, and cleanup procedures for hazardous materials.
  • Safely handles, stores, transports, and dispenses hazardous materials in compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and company regulations. Follow all traffic control procedures, safety guidelines, and environmental regulations
  • Maintain accurate logs, documentation, and daily reports as required
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and compliant work environment by following all company safety policies, adhering to OSHA regulations, and practicing safe driving and equipment-handling procedures at all times.
  • Assist with jobsite setup, including layout, traffic control, and staging of materials when not driving.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Valid CDL type B with HazMat and tank endorsement required.
  • Strong understanding of safe driving practices in active construction zones.
  • 1-2 years of experience operating commercial vehicles in paving, milling, or heavy construction environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical systems and preventive maintenance.
  • Reliable transportation.

  • Ability to follow verbal instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Must maintain constant situational awareness of moving vehicles, heavy machinery, and other hazards inherent to paving and construction operations
  • Ability to adhere to Superior policies and other safety regulations. 
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and nights as required.
  • Must be 18 years of age 

Physical Demands 

This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds; pull up one’s own body weight; and sit in one position for up to 12 hours per day. It also requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods; tolerate noise, vibration, heat, and outdoor conditions common to paving operations; demonstrate the manual dexterity needed to use hand tools and equipment; and maintain good eye-hand coordination, physical fitness, multi-limb coordination, static strength, and balance.


Work Environment/Tools and Equipment

Work is performed outdoors on roadways, construction zones, and active traffic areas, often in hot, cold, or otherwise adverse weather. Employees are regularly exposed to hot asphalt, dust, fumes, loud noise, and vibration from tools and equipment.
