Job Description

  • Assists registered nurse and/or physicians with exams and procedures
  • Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure
  • Administers medications and injections according to orders
  • Maintains patient records
  • Performs various routine tests and procedures, including dipstick urinalysis, hematocrits, EKG s, tympanometry, audiometry, inhalation therapy, pregnancy tests, and blood glucose
  • Maintains inventories of clinical supplies and medications
  • Ensures that patient examination rooms are ready for use by patients, and that rooms are stocked with supplies and equipment
  • Completes call backs to parents/guardians of patients by phone
  • Calls prescriptions to pharmacies; prepares lab, X-ray request and referral forms
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

  • Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the State of Alabama Required
  • LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure or current Multi-State LPN license in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama Required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Phlebotomy skills with demonstrated proficiency (required). Familiarity with EMR systems (Cerner) is a plus. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary oncology care team.
