- Assists registered nurse and/or physicians with exams and procedures
- Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure
- Administers medications and injections according to orders
- Maintains patient records
- Performs various routine tests and procedures, including dipstick urinalysis, hematocrits, EKG s, tympanometry, audiometry, inhalation therapy, pregnancy tests, and blood glucose
- Maintains inventories of clinical supplies and medications
- Ensures that patient examination rooms are ready for use by patients, and that rooms are stocked with supplies and equipment
- Completes call backs to parents/guardians of patients by phone
- Calls prescriptions to pharmacies; prepares lab, X-ray request and referral forms
- Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
- Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
- Regular and prompt attendance
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
- Related duties as assigned
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
- Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the State of Alabama Required
- LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure or current Multi-State LPN license in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama Required
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Required
- Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Phlebotomy skills with demonstrated proficiency (required). Familiarity with EMR systems (Cerner) is a plus. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary oncology care team.
