Job Description

General Description of the Job Class

Provides professional nursing care by utilizing the nursing process to care for patient within an assigned unit

Coordinates care planning with other disciplines

Under the supervision and administration of the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse of assigned Unit, the Staff RN is responsible for the nursing care in an assigned nursing unit or a portion of a nursing unit.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

 

  • Assists in supervision and administration of nursing care of a patient unit or total care of an assigned number of patients.
  • Supervise activities of practical nurses, aides or nursing students.
  • Orient new personnel to the nursing unit.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of nursing observations and care.
  • Communicate and make rounds with physicians providing the information they need to determine patient’s progress. Communicate patient condition changes to physician and patient family.
  • Investigate complaints, correct if possible and report findings to nurse manager or charge nurse.
  • Assess patients, prepare assessment and care plans daily.
  • Start I.V.’s, supervises or gives medications.
  • Cooperate with case manager, social worker, families and or home health care personnel to complete discharge planning. Fill out and give medications.
  • Maintains legal, institutional and professional standards.
  • Maintains a professional appearance at all times in dress and attitude.
  • Display emotional stability in dealing with patient, families, physicians and problems.
  • Be prepared at all times to handle patient emergencies.
  • Performs related duties required.
