The Logistics Manager leads transportation, routing, and fleet operations across a multi-branch distribution network serving HVAC, plumbing, and appliance parts customers. This role ensures safe, timely, and cost-effective branch-to-customer deliveries while maintaining high service levels in a same-day/next-day contractor-driven environment. The position owns routing and delivery systems, oversees fleet performance and freight management, ensures regulatory compliance, and drives continuous improvement across the transportation network.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee daily transportation operations supporting branch-to-customer deliveries, job-site deliveries, will-call support, and inter-branch transfers.
- Own and manage routing and delivery systems (TMS and route optimization platforms), ensuring proper configuration, branch adoption, training, and performance optimization.
- Design and optimize last-mile delivery routes to meet contractor’s same-day and next-day service expectations.
- Monitor route efficiency, cost per stop, miles per route, on-time delivery performance, and driver productivity; implement corrective actions as needed.
- Standardize branch delivery processes, dispatch procedures, and performance metrics across the network.
- Partner with branch managers to align delivery capacity with customer demand and seasonal volume fluctuations.
- Oversee fleet utilization, vehicle lifecycle planning, maintenance coordination, fuel usage, and asset performance.
- Manage inbound and outbound freight operations including LTL, FTL, parcel, and expedited shipments.
- Review and approve freight invoices and monitor transportation spend against budget.
- Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities while maintaining service levels.
- Develop and maintain relationships with regional and national carriers, freight forwarders, and 3PL partners.
- Negotiate carrier contracts and rate agreements to ensure competitive pricing and service reliability.
- Monitor vendor performance against service level agreements (SLAs) and established KPIs.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and applicable state and local transportation regulations.
- Oversee driver qualification files, vehicle records, insurance requirements, and fleet safety documentation.
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability across all transportation operations.
- Track and report key performance indicators including on-time delivery %, cost per stop, cost per mile, fleet utilization, damage rates, and service performance.
- Analyze transportation and routing data to identify trends and drive operational improvements.
- Provide recommendations to senior leadership regarding fleet strategy, routing optimization, and network efficiency.
- Travel up to 30-40% to branch locations, distribution centers, and carrier/vendor sites as required.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Industrial Distribution, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5 or more years of experience in transportation or logistics management within distribution, wholesale, or industrial supply environments.
- Experience managing fleet operations, branch-to-customer delivery models, and freight management.
- Experience managing or implementing routing/dispatch software or Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
- Strong knowledge of DOT compliance and transportation safety regulations.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating carrier contracts and managing vendor relationships.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This is a full-time position requiring approximately 40 hours per week. The role is primarily office-and travel based and involves:
- Prolonged periods of sitting, with occasional standing and walking.
- Regular use of hands and arms for computer and office-related tasks.
